Here's My Thoughts on Radio One in Boston..

They've sole their FM.. and you don't **USUALLY** see a major corporation in a big market with only one station. However, they've had WILD 1090 for a long time and I doubt they'll be selling it.

Once 1200 WKOX gets it's new facilities built, they're wont be a need for 1430 anymore. WXKS is diplexed with 1090AM now anyways. I could see Radio One buying 1430 and putting their Urban format on one and talk format on another.

There are other possibilities of AM's they might buy but I see this as most liekly on the AM Dial for them as it seems easiet.

Might they buy an FM? Sure. They could buy an under performing FM from one of the major groups in the area or buy a suburban Boston signal from someone else.

Nassau surprised us all, though, with the acquisition of 99.5; Beasley is big in other markets yet has only WRCA here. And Radio One has had WILD for less time than they have owned WBOT/WILD-FM, first as an LMA with Nash and converted to a full acquisition around 2000, IIRC.

But judging by the comments made by the Radio One CEO in regard to the market: "While Boston is a wonderful radio market, it is not of great strategic importance to us"... you can expect WILD 1090 to be sold off in the near future as well. And judging from what I'm seeing on one of the other Boston radio forums (as it always seems to happen, I'm out of the market when one of our few format changes occurs), WILD 1090 could be dropping the talk and going all-gospel in the near future before that station is eventually sold to the highest bidder.

Is radio one in trouble in the money department? Why the selling all of a sudden? mmmmm?

every radio group is in trouble. that's why cbs is paring down its stations and citadel is renogatiang its deal with disney.

radio one is getting out of boston. there no reason to stay in the market with a daytimer am which carries national talk shows or gospel music off a computer. they're done here. thanks for nothing, mr. liggins.
