here's something to ponder you radio geniuses!

If most managers these days consider "oldies" formats obsolete and a bad seller, then how come "oldies'" programming is popping up on major market stations?-

770 WABC New York "Saturday Night" 6-9pm
1120 KMOX St. Louis,"Route 66" 9-12am CST
As Les Nesman says: "think about it!"

I happen to support Oldies and im only 30.. It was good music then, and its still good music,,, You dont have to be old to like the Old time rock and roll. At least Knox has WOKI with Scott Shannon true oldies,,, Wish it was on 100.3 or a better signal though. Hate that WOKI calls were moved, and the WNOX calls were both moved...

Hey at least the call letters are still in the market. A few of the classic stations I listened to as a kid have seen their call letters travel thousands of miles away.

Plus we have a few here that haven't moved. WIVK of course is still around and it still country. And WIMZ too. In fact WIMZ is probably a bonus because not only have the call letters and format stayed the same, but if you could invent a time machine and listen to 103.5 twenty years ago, they would probably be playing the exact same songs they are today ;D

That can be said for most any AOR as they mostly all morphed to classic rock,, Is their still even an AOR or is that what Active rock is now???

Oldies are Alive and Well in Albuquerque as My KRKE in The Last 3 Books Has Gone from a 0.0 to a 1.9 and we our in the Top 6 45 +.....We are only a 10k AM That Goes to Low Power at Sunset. We Heavely Promote Our Online Listening & Facebook Page.

#1)Very Simply in These Economic Times The 45-65 Demo has The Money To Spend and They Love Oldies SO if you have a Biz and are Smart Then you want to Market to that Audience.

#2) I Call Oldies COMFORT Food For The Ears. Think About it

#3) Look At The Beatles and Rock Band and That will show you that Oldies are For The Whole Family especially with Lots of Tweens Getting Turned on to the Fab 4.

#4) Elvis is NOT Dead here we Run Elvis Only and it is Book In And Book Out One of The TOP Rated shows in Albuquerque

The 50-65 Yearolds are NOT the 50-65 Yearolds of 20 years ago They Have Money, They Eat Out,They Buy Cars, They Buy Things for The Kids etc.......

Actually, WABC and KMOX may be legendary stations, but I'm sure like most legendary AM 50,000 talkers their demographics are more than 50.

Hence, playing records that relates to their base is just a way of saving money instead of hiring a talk show host.

Mark Simone, host of Saturday Night Oldies on WABC, is a top talent who also hosts a talk show on 77, and I guarantee that no money is being saved. But from reading the NY boards, that show does all right for WABC.

One thing that is interesting: Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel works well in some markets but not others. For example, it does fine in Knoxville, but was recently dumped in DC.
