HERE'S THE REAL STORY ON KIRO'S "EVOLUTION"...

It's all contained right here:
http://deseretmediacompanies.com/content/view/68/our-mission

An excerpt: "I seek to lift, inspire, and help others find enduring happiness" and "I promote integrity, civility, morality, and respect for all people," and "I seek to instill light and knowledge in my work."

So get ready for the new "clean" KIRO and - most likely - the end of the most of what you hear on The Truth. Why, you ask?

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogs/crawler/49836359-70/hannity-ksl-media-statement.html.csp

Apparently Hannity's days on KSL are numbered thanks to the "code".

And before you say "But SRP, this is Deseret Media, and that's in Salt Lake, and it's not Bonneville" - don't be a fool. What happens in SLC doesn't stay in SLC.

If I were working at 1820 Eastlake - I'd be updating my resume if I didn't agree with that "code"...

thats some good investigative work to call handle "srp". like i asked in a prior thread on "michael savage show being dumped" by KTTH." i wonder if savage was carried and dumped on other bonneville or desert media stations? that may be something to research. perhaps savage axing was the first wave of "clean"sing of the dirty?

Oh no, a call for civility on talk radio? Next thing you know the hosts will have to stop lying and playing on people's fears.

Actually - there is one reality in Salt Lake and one in all other markets for Bonneville. They have always had to be very sensitive to both the membership and the Church leadership in Salt Lake.

One of the senior managers of Bonneville tells the story of getting chewed out by a member of the Council of 12 - the LDS churches board of directors - when he visited Dallas and found they were playing rock on the church owned radio station. Seems they were happy to cash the checks the station produced but were agahst at the format. Guess the council of 12 had been led to believe that all their FM stations were 'Beautiful Music'.

Also... don't forget, both KSL radio & TV are now in a separate division from Bonneville International. Different attitude than Bruce Reese...maybe?

Not any different in Seattle. One of the foul mouthed reporters was told to knock off the risque language he often uses. One uptight bunch with reporters asking for permission to use certain words that aren't even close to the censorable ones.

At the end of the day, it's their station - guess they get to pick the dance records.

Bottom line, Bonneville is a business, despite what they may call their radio divison in SLC. Yes, there are some ethics that are held to higher standards there, but at the end of the day, they will run formats that make money. Bonneville is no different than any other radio company. Bottom line, baby.

One must always remember that The Morman Church/LDS put the "O" in Organized religion. A brief visit to Salt Lake will show you that. Most of the massive bits of concrete and steel that you see in that city alone have a church thumbprint on them..

I have to agree with you on that, I was there for the Olympics and for the tourists you realized right away that the church is part of just about everything there in some fashion. Was a great place to visit but not sure I could ever live there. I know a couple local businesses that are owned by members of the LDS and they do very much hold their staff to a higher standard in spite of their bottom line so I could see where it would be possible in the case of the radio business as well.

Do note that KSL-TV, despite becoming an NBC affiliate in 1995, has never carried a single episode of "Saturday Night Live" (the market's CW affil has aired it instead). Obviously for language and content purposes.

The standards in Salt Lake City are obviously MUCH, MUCH higher than in the rest of the country. So much so that the other talk station in town, Hannity's soon-to-be affiliate KRNS-FM, uses the "Family Values Talk Radio" name despite having a lineup just like the standard CC talk station.

Maybe I'm looking at it incorrectly, but as KSL A/F/T aren't directly in the Bonneville fold but are more closely tied to the LDS, "The Code" seems to be independent of Bonneville itself. I wouldn't worry about KTTH just yet.

Bonneville still controls KSL, they just changed the name. As for SNL, interesting that the Saturday night show is not shown, but when NBC runs SNL specials in primetime, KSL runs 'em.
The LDS church doesn't micro-manage KSL. KSL runs quite independently from the church. Yes, KSL has standards, but there is no LDS "in your face" on KSL, either radio or tv. And there is little church influence in their other markets, other than perhaps, a conservative bent.
