Here's The WWL/WRNO Kicker...

Let's see the WRNO talk lineup:

Morning - Monica Pierre
9-12 - Andre Trevigne
12-5 - Syndicated
5-8 - Gerry V

Now...Monica Pierre is not strong enough to carry mornings by herself against WWL...

Doesn't *anyone* see the coincidence that Bob DelGiorno has announced his retirement from WWL effective May 1? WRNO could have WWL's 5-noon lineup from not so long ago shortly with DelG/Monica then Andre. It could be a very interesting battle, especially with WWL rumored to be putting the loser Bob & Vinny team in DelGiorno's place.

My questions would be

A. Wouldn't Bob still be under a no compete for at least a while in this market (If entercon was smart)..meaning at least a few months of Monica having to wing it herself?

B. Entercon basically got rid of Andre due to her problems she had... Is CC willing to take on a possible headache? Espcially a company known for getting rid of headaches pretty quick at times?

C. Gerry V on both 1280 and 99.5 at the same time?

D. I wonder what syndication... I would say Moon, but his show is the same time as andre.....

E. As everyone says, CC gonna kill a legendary station (in a town that seems to eat up traditions more than anywhere else) for a talk station with 2 question marks for your main dayparts....

Clear Channel is going to put a news talker on in NOLA against WWL? The pre-emptive move by Entercom was a smart one and proves once again that smart always wins over big and sleepy.

Case in point. The management in Baton Rouge was arrogant, lethargic and not paying attention when Guaranty put on the country classics station and now in the latest trends beat WYNK. The heritage country station in the market for years. But they won awards for Katrina broadcasts.

See what happens when you are not paying attention. All the great talent in the world can't help you if you don't keep promoting, keep improving and keeping ahead of the curve.

There is no war chest in Clear Channel with NOLA's market revenue down and high expectations from the Baton Rouge cluster.

Try that one again. Latest trend has the two stations tied - and a trend does not a book make.

And tell me, how exactly is simulcasting a station that already exists (WWL) and would have been competing against the potential FM news/talk anyway a smart move?

Because now people (like me) can listen in the office and... it sounds better on the FM side of the dial.
Listening in the office + better audio quality = more listeners listening longer.
Makes sense to me.
I think that's why someone else said it's smart.
