If Clear Channel San Diego understood how to make sound business decisions, they would not have paid Tony & Kris $1-million a year for five years. That maneuver pretty much explains how poorly CC runs its local business. If Clear Channel knew what they what they were doing (that's a really big IF...that's like saying if your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle), they would have put oldies on KUSS long ago. Instead they had to maintain a pissing contest with KSON. That turned out to be a really poor decision since the local country audience which has decreased tremendously with the arrival of PPM. CC completely missed the boat with oldies, leaving the hapless John Lynch crew to clean up big time. The Walrus is winning because it is the only game in town. Oldies is a cheap format and Clear Channel would have cleaned up if they would have put oldies on 95.7 before the Walrus floated to the top. Also, if Clear Channel knew what they were doing, I think it could also be argued that they could have put sports on 95.7. AM 1360 as a sports outlet is completely worthless. They could have brokered 1360 AM selling one hour blocks of paid programming OR they have leased it to a Spanish operator. Anything would be better than 1350 as a sports station. But noooooo. AM 1360 is now a complete waste. Regarding putting hip hop on 95.7, I don't have enough data. At present KUSS is an underperforming country station that just sits there drawing medium attention and tepid ratings. It is clear CC just wants to use 95.7 as a spoiler to keep KSON from getting all the country audience. If they flipped 95.7 to urban, I'm sure they would give it the old weak Clear Channel try, meaning the new hip-hop station would be an also ran to Z-90. Now if they really made a big push with it, and they really put resources into an urban 95.7, they they could possibly edge past Z-90. But Clear Channel is an empty shell and they clearly want to put as little resources into their local stations as possible. Therefore, I am not sure if if 95.7 would be better off urban, since it's probably going to be second rate no matter what format it takes on.
