What is going on with KJ97?

It looks like we will be spelling KTFM C-O-U-N-T-R-Y 94.

Speaking of Country and format change speculation anyone remember when KTFM was deciding to flip to Country when they got there butt kicked from then Power 93? There was quite some protest going on to save KTFM. I think it was 1989.

Why would KTFM flip when it had the best book in target demo that's it ever had in PPM and beat Mix in core cells?

Yeah, I didn't really understand his post either. As I stated in another thread, KTFM is leading the Top 40 pack with a whopping 12.1(18-34 Females).

A month or so ago, I said KTFM would have the advantage over The Beat due them not tagging themselves to one certain genre(Hip Hop) and now the PPM's are starting to reflect this. Anyhow, I guess we will see how all this plays out but KTFM and Mix clearly have the advantage as Hip Hop sales remain flat and Party 97-7 no longer exist.

It's astounding how badly they've screwed up KGSR...completely stripped it of any Austin vibe. Such a shame!

If you can figure out a way to translate the "Austin Vibe" into ratings and advertising dollars, stations would be lining up to join the parade. Too often the bands and the clubs want free plugs as "public service announcements" to support Austin music. IIRC-- Under FCC rules the stations can't count it as public service if it's not a certified non-profit organization.

I remember a time when folks wanted stations to program 'Texas Music', it was fun, it was new, it was cool, and it didn't make any money. Just because you or I may like a band, doesn't mean the rest of the world will, and the Austin of today isn't anything at all like the Austin of the mid to late 90's and it's not even close to the Austin of the pre-90's.

Austin today is more like San Francisco than anything else....

How big is the lead? A "whopping" lead or are they clustered?

Looking at the last three months, none of the 5 Top 40 stations in the SA market were above 12.0. So yeah, I say this is very impressive considering the amount of competition within the market.

As for your second question, KTFM, The Beat and Mix are the top 3 stations. Party was at #9.

Why did they sell the party if they were #9? That was a dumb move I thought? They should of kept them going. It was one of my favorite stations. Air one is OK.

Actually... my question was... How far behind are the competitors in the demo you quoted?

#9 in 18-34 is terrible. Advertisers very rarely buy more than three deep in a single demo. There was no way it was going to get premium rates with ratings like that.
