Who cares? If you want to talk about Pittsburgh radio, the Pittsburgh board seems like a pretty good place to do it.
I've always had a hard time understanding MsMusicRadio's posts. If I'd have noticed she started this one I wouldn't have wasted my time. But, then again, here I am reading her drivel, and actually responding to it. Now there's even less chance she will just go away.

People say nasty things about me, but I never get sarcastic or attack back. I don't have to because I know that the spirit of the "Fun lovin five +one "guide my pen as it is. My goal is to remind people of radio as it once was in 1965. The same spring that brought forth WCFL and KHJ. As for my politics, I know it is always heading left. Other than that:

HAPPY NEW YEAR ???

and if you don't get my humor----------your loss Mister Steel B-----oops Rocker

MsMusic: I think if you have to tell readers you're joking, it may not be working.

The OP had me going WTF??, too. I understand your nostalgic take, but WGAS abt. these people you keep bringing up?? WGAS abt. Tampa?

Thank you...

Thank you. Even Howard Cosell and Carson had to explain a joke sometime. Usually Carlin didn't. Sorry to confuse people. I'll just go out into
Schenely Park and eat worms unless somebody brings me a Primanti's. Maybe I'll stick to FLorida as it is a lot warmer. Just because I actually met John Rook I guess doesn't make me an expert in radio  AS to KDKA, I presumed with the frantic changes in CBS programming in Tampa, San Fran Area, and Chartlotte, the satire would be obvious. Sorry again.

could someone tell me why kdka sounds sooooooo bland ??? i listened to john steigerwald in the evenings and thought he was really good. for an old sports guy he adapted to the political scene and handled local issues well. did they just use him for the political season to promote their conservative agenda? the kd afternoon news block is the best around, but they should watch they are going to turn the station into a blow torch version of kqv.....what's happened to personality filled, fun radio? is it dead? DOES HONSBERGER REALLY MEET THAT IMAGE?.......sad to be back in town......bring back some fun, or the alternatives to radio are going to relegate the medium to that of the hot air popcorn popper.....

Question: I've been doing this for 25 years...have no idea what a "chicken rocker" is? Can someone explain.

Back in thew 7o's Chicken Rockers were the stations that would play the lighter side of Top 40. In the case of WGAR The Big 1220 youu'd get a heavy dose of Spinners, 4 Tops, 4 Seasons, Elvis etc....but you wouldnt get Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge etc. You'd get a high energy top 40 aproach, jingles, dj's talking up songs etc. but no heavy music.... in other words rock stations that were to "chicken" to really rock!

California- I think you bring up a good point.

I think more radio stations have to be unafraid to fail.

An example could be made on this very thread. MsMusicRadio tried to make a humorous post. It wasn't that funny, but as Groucho Marx once said while breaking the fourth wall "Not all the jokes can be good. You've got to expect that sometimes!"

And MsMusicRadio took some shots from other posters.

But you hope she won't crawl away and die. You hope she will try to be creative again.

Being creative means taking a chance every now and then. It won't always work, but it's the only way to come up with a gem.

But we're not seeing a whole lot of creativity from KDKA. We see them going back to what they used to do with varying degrees of success.

Out goes Stagey and Miller- back comes Mike Pintak and 90 to 6 (or 180 to 6, or whatever they are calling it).

Maybe it will work and maybe it won't, but creativity in radio around here has become going back to what people did years ago.

It isn't new! It's OLD!

And we do it all the time in Pittsburgh! It has gotten to the point we RECYCLE ENTIRE RADIO STATIONS (B-94)!

It's as if radio stations are afraid of taking a chance. They'd rather keep eating gruel than strive for a brass ring.

I'm still here. I just had my hip replaced on monday. I'll be back soon. meanwhile, I sink even further into the really old demographics. Just put on some Dion and the Belmonts.

In other words, 3WS prior to 1988, when they went all oldies. During the days of "Trapper Jack" Elliot in the morning.
