WGNG 550am- All I remember of this station is that it was top 40. So no.
WLKW on 550 as "The Buzz" - I actually liked this station and believe if it hung around a little bit longer and what has happened at WHJJ that this station would have been nice competition for WPRO-am not big but a good alternative.
WEAN-790- I dont know why they just don't go all news during the day using the recources of WPRO's news team. They all ready have the bodies in the building to at-least go all-news or all-all related till at least 6 p.m.Get rid of this Business talk crap and air syndicated shows at night.
Make this station calls again WEAN-am and combo it with 99.7 WEAN.
WJAR 920-AM- Heritage calls thats it.No, It would not work in todsys world.
990- WLKW- A good "Time of your life type formaat may actually work here again. Not a money maker but could stay affloat if done right with a very limited staff and bird-feed.
1110-WHIM- I had the pleasure of working at this station and still believe there is a loyal audience to Classic Country around here. Not a nubers bust but you could have some loyal sponsers and listeners. Again would run this off the bird now with maybe a couple of Live local weekenders for on air and to make appearences.Classic Country shows are still alive around here.
1450- WKRI- Chris Dipaola wants to kill me on my thoughts on Around the clock local and live "AM RAdio". I think the concept is good but financially a bust.AM stations are going away of the dinosaur and many have takin homes on FM frequencies. This station is ok for bird feed?maybe some paid programming that has local interest. and a source for the mid-day Dunkin Donuts runs for the HAll staff.(well You know what I mean).
1230- WERI- No Comment.Chris Dipaola is trying to re-encarnate this as WBLQ-AM.I respect him and wish him luck on this but a REALLY Tough sell.
That is my thoughts on the AM band.Feel free to agree or disagree with me on any of those thoughts.
Now the FM-
93.3 as WJAR.Don't know enough about to comment.
92.3 WPRO,WLKW 101.5 and 94.1 WHJY as JOY 94. None of these stations in Todays world with buetiful music.
98.1 (forget the calls) but as an AC station. Could work if another Providence station went the direction of Country.
Now the 99's and there are a few.
99.1 WPLM as Jazz. 50/50 on this one. There is alot of ACish stations around withier own twist. But they have been doing this for a few years now and it seems to be working. This station is also family owned and I think they do a great job with it in Coorperate world. They have had plenty of offers from Big companies to sell in the past but won't cave in.
99.3 WBLQ (rock)- I worked here and it was very unique. Every Jock brought there own personallity with an all-request rock based format. No play-list,very little on the air liner reads. You were in charge of what was played and when during your shift as long as spots got played when they supposed to.As a full-time live and local station in todays world would work for the listener but not the owners. If anything some part timers during the Summer season to work in the party atmosphere of Summertime in South County.
99.3 WJZS- as jazz and swing. Nice nitched format but not enough to stick with it.
99.3 WJZS- as a Cool 102 type of deal.See what I said about 99.3 as WBLQ.To bad Block Island has no station that is personally involved with them. I would try to at least get a local morning show on.I know they don't have the money but when times get better I would try to do it.
99.7-WDGE- Forget it.Nothing stands agianst WBRU anther attempt that failed.
99.7 -100.3 as the HAWK. I liked this mix of music and believe in todays world this would be great competion for B101.
99.7-WSKO- If WEEI did'nt come it would work.It needed a complete overhaul though. That is why it failed.
100.3 as Jazz. Not sure.
100.3 as Z100- an all 80's format. No,would have to add 90's at this piont and I think it would be very weak.By the way did we ever find out what (and more...) meant.
101.5 WLKW- No
101.5 as B101 oldies. Ahhh, I think an "all oldies request show" would work on Saturday nights. As sad as it is the demo's are'nt thier anymore for 50's and 60's oldies.
103.7 WERI- Top 40.This might actually work in todays world but why tamper with probably the station that makes a profit as sports.
103.7 WFNX- A failed attempt at two things.First going against WBRU and the second to regionalize a network of stations. Not saying it can't be done. But they failed at it. so NO
105.1 WPJB- Great station and good alternative to WPRO.It would be good battle t watch if owned by someone else.
106.1 WINK-I don't know enough to comment
OK.I rambled enough.Your turn....
