Herman Cain/WSB

I really like Savage as a talk host and you could argue he is a conversationalist. One thing for certain.....he certainly is NOT a cookie cutter talk host!
I'm just not sure his schtick is warm and fuzzy enough for delicate Southern ears........
I thought of another really great talk host.....Bill Handel. In Atlanta, the show is called "Handel on the Law" but he is also one of the top rated morning guys out in San Francisco (I think it's S.F.)Handel is a conversationalist. Any person who can make a discussion of law into a radio show has real "talent on loan from gawd.....!"
My brother dropped his engineering career and became an ambulance chaser because of Handel's radio show......it's that good.
Some of the weekend hosts like Rob and Bob, Handel, or Sam Memolo (spelling??)would do much more compelling programming than the political talking head hacks mentioned earlier.
Why do people seem to only want to hear political talk anyway? Is there no one interested in how to properly pot a Petunia??!!

Personally, I'd like to see Savage there, even if it is a delay program from the previous night...or just revamp the schedule and put Savage at night...

Anyone but Cain...
HIPPIE GUY

Hippie: You are so correct. I listen to Savage now on my iPhone on KSFO San
Francisco. He is on live 9pm EST. Savage at one time was on WSB at 10pm and
he was a true delight...!! Savage is the kind of talk host WSB needs from 9am to
Noon, but some powers that be at WSB are in love with Herman. Maybe Lew
Dickey can cut a deal with Cox to at least put Savage on live at night 9pm....or as
has been suggested tape delay til the next morning...BUT WE NEED TO GET
HERMAN OFF THE RADIO NOW. WSB MANAGEMENT ARE YOU READING THIS STUFF?

I have not heard the guy at WLAC but will try to remember to listen online sometime over the holiday.

Unless you are close to a 1480-1530 AM transmitter on close (10 miles) the WSB 750 tower, your car radio should pick up 1510 WLAC an hour after sunset. They go directional later than the Eastern time zone stations do. But they put an excellent night time signal over most of the Southeast, at night. I can still remember John R. selling mail order baby chickens and records.

i rarely comment on this board, but felt compelled regarding herman cain. as a talk radio junkie, i am begging wsb to find
someone else. i am actually turning the dial to sports talk rather than listen to HC. i am a fifty plus, conservative/ libertarian
female and i am not only turned off by his lack of show preparation, but his voice is just so bad. i could maybe take the voice if
he had something to say. i never listen to hannity due to his lack of intelligence and HC suffers from the same problem.
i find that i am relying on the internet more and more for radio talk. like someone else posted...wsb, are you reading this board?

PERHAPS WE ALL NEED TO EMAIL TOP MANAGEMENT AT WSB AND AT COX CORPORATE.
NOT MUCH ELSE WE CAN DO HERE EXCEPT COMPLAIN. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS:

HERMAN'S GOTTA GO.......AND SOON !

@Mona lott: Herman Cain could beat all of us in an IQ test with half his brain tied behind his back (sorry for all the Rush slogans.....)The man was a mathematics whiz in the military......that is not stupid folk territory! Look at his success at Godfather's Pizza - he turned that company around and made it profitable in a couple of years time. You can't be an idiot and accomplish what he has accomplished in life.
I like and admire Cain. I think he might make a tremendous president one day. But going solo as a talk host is not the ticket.
What does this esteemed board.....the board op brain trust as it were....think of the idea of pairing Cain with another host? Might he possibly be a better talent with a foil?
Remember.....Boortz wasn't nearly as good until he started talking to his board op at WGST (Comrade Mike Rose.) Later it was Royal and Belinda. Neil can be just as boring when he goes solo and starts talking fair tax, airplanes, house in Naples etc.

Another casual surfer of this site. It has been 5.5 years since I posted here but had to chime in on this one:

I agree with the general consensus thus far...I don't think Cain will last long. His night show, which grew on me, had a different feel than he acts during the day. His day schtick just doesn't sound good. I like Cain as a person and wished he didn't drop out of the race. I wanted to vote for him. To hear him take to the air and complain about the Pres when he was a quiter is too much.

Please no Savage. That guy is depressing.

Two words: Mark Arum. Why he doesn't have a regular show on his home station is beyond me. His occasional weekend show is great, off the cuff and entertaining; but he can fill in for anyone, so he can be serious and carry on something during the week talking national issues and politics. Give the guy a shot - it's better than where we seem headed.

"We are Stupid, people", if we keep listening.

My shop radio has honestly been tuned into WSB for about 10 months without change of the dial, until Rush came on over 640. I thought I died and went to heaven the day Rush showed up on WSB....no longer had to change the dial as previously at 12Noon....ironic, now I change it at 9AM, only to change again at noon....

That's too much work! ::)

Earlier in the thread, Trusty mentioned that Herman says "Gov-a-mint." I don't know about that, but it reminded me of something.

In the 1980s and '90s, there was a personality in Miami named Don Cox. He worked at Y100 and Power 96 (Cox on the Radio). He gave away lollipops on his show, and he called them Cox-suckers.

Something tells me that Herman Cain just takes himself too seriously to start selling boxes of "Gov-a-Mints" on his show, although it would probably generate some much-needed revenue for WSB if they continue to keep HC on for a 3-hour block M-F.

Now for the interesting (and scary) part:
I was half-awake this morning when the Cain/WSB situation popped into my mind (Now, THAT was scary enough.), and I asked myself, "How does this affect WSB?"

The answer came to me in one word: "laughingstock".

Well, I was wide-awake after that, but before I started to check out mental hospitals, I made a personal decision that will keep me sane and not worrying about it: From 9 to 12 M-F, WSB is hereby considered to be "The Comedy Channel" of Talk Radio. I now have to listen for two reasons:
1. so I won't be called (as Neal so aptly puts it) a raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacist.
2. the sheer enrtain-mint of it. If you see me laughing in the car on a weekday between 9 and 12, you'll know what I'm doing.

I mean, SOMEbody's gotta take Herman Cain NOT so seriously. Better get your listening done while he's still on the air getting too much exposure - even get some airchecks so you can tell your buddies in other markets, "You're not gonna believe what we have in Atlanta. Listen."

OK. I'm through - gotta make last-minute preps for the end of the world and other trivial stuff.
;D

Okay, I am putting this to rest...I had enough of the Cain stuff...both on the dial and off.

I say, and my final remark is directed to COX Management...Get Rid of HC, and Resurrect 'THE KIMMER'.
