He's Ba-ack! Craig Kilborn To Host Fox Talk Show

Actually, the show will be "tested" on about a half-dozen Fox owned-and-operated stations this summer.

It will be the ESPN alum's first foray in the talk show fray since replacing the late Tom Snyder on CBS' "Late Late Show." Kilborn also was the original host of "The Daily Show." While the show is not going to be specifically geared toward a late-night audience per se (they are grooming it for "access" time slots), it still is an interesting development in that I wonder if it would have ever materialized, had the Fox network nabbed Conan. Here you have a guy whose previous talk show hosting experience was in late night. It will be interesting to see if he can transition to other dayparts. Lord knows he has had enough time off to work on his mechanics.

I always enjoyed his "In the News" segment on The Late Late Show. Perhaps he'll do well but at this point the late-night/talk market seems a little saturated.

His '5 Questions' segments were good also. I beleive Jay Leno swiped that concept and changed it to '10@10' for 'The Jay Leno Show'. With the exception of Jimmy Kimmels appearance, Jay's version wasn't as funny. No surprise there.

The end of the article interestingly stated that "The Daily Show" when helmed by Craig Kilborn, was less politically focused than its current incarnation with Jon Stewart.

I seem to remember an equal abundance of political mockery in the Kilborn days, as head writer Lizz Winstead didn't shy from controversy and is an outspoken liberal.

That would be great if he comes back to TV. ;D

For a while there in the early 2000's I thought he was way more funnier than O'Brien.

Of course Ferguson has taken all of the credit for The Late Late Show's success recently; but it was all started with Kilborn and his sharp wit.

I doubt FOX would air it, but I could see it on My Network TV because I thought for a while they were considering a late night program which would make more

sense to air MNTV.

...bullspit. Viewership for The Late Late Show dipped between Snyder's departure and Ferguson's arrival. Craig Stillborn is moldy old bread...

I should reiterate that it appears it will be a talk show that will air either in the early evenings or perhaps the daytime, and not so much late night. I do like oldvnewschool's idea of putting Craig on My Network, though.

I've got a feeling that Kilborn will go over as well as the Harvey Levin viral video test-run on FOX O&O stations last year, "Beyond Twisted" (which, if I recall correctly, lasted a week or less on the stations).

On the other hand, it could be a springboard for a potential show on FX or another of its cable networks. FOX should know that the younger demos are moving (or have already moved) to cable.

I guess that's why they are calling it a "test run": if it exceeds expectations, it might stay on broadcast TV; otherwise, it'll end up on one of their cable outlets...

Well, I just saw my first promo for the new Kilborn show, during tonight's NASCAR race; it was a local spot from Fox 5/New York. Here's the transcript:

"The rebirth of cool!
Kilby's back!
So sharp...
So witty...
So perfectly Fox...
Craig Kilborn...
Fox 5, June."

So, apparently, FOX 29 in Philadelphia is killing whatever was left of "prime access" comedy block during the 7PM hour to show this schlock. I wonder if syndicated reruns of "The Simpsons" is even a viable option anymore considering that 20+ years worth of material is still airing somewhere, somewhen...

Oh well, remind me to try to watch something else during this hour...

Is there anywhere to watch this online? Our local Fox station won't be carrying it and I'm too far from LA to pick up KTTV with my OTA antenna.
