I happen to be running the board the night Poorman did his first go around at 987. That night, he decided to do his own giveaway, without the stations permission. The prize, was a Ferrari kit car that he somehow got donated by the guy that builds them, and it was legit. The contest...the first person to crash their car. There were two people that actually crashed their cars while on the cell phone. Poorman definetly made an impression that night. It was a short one night stint, he was let go that night. Hope this time it goes better for him. 
I'd crash my car if it meant I'd win a McBurnie Ferrari Daytona replica, but I'd do it in the parking lot of the station!

Just to be more specific, he was on one night, during the Star 98.7 days, back in 01.
he was on this last saturday night nov 29th , so i guess he is still going to do some airshifts ??105.9 The Lazer Fan said:

Hey there. Michael Martin here. VP of programming for LA and day to day PD of 987. Poorman will be doing Saturdays 7p-12mid. Always loved the guy, always will.

I doubt Cantore would move to LA for a weekend shift. He has a wife and a kid, with another on the way.
Fulltime in the am? Then Im sure he is your boy!

Appreciate the comment but at this point 987 is an irritant to KROQ at best. "Puting a hurt?" Not 100%. At night we actually beat them 18-34 and 25-54 so I know we bother them and are a choice on the preset. I DO think we sound great. We have some great music on the air, great jocks and imaging. Kelly is our imaging director who also does KIIS. Our voice guy is John Frost, former KROQ guy. The 2 of them together create amazing stuff and are second to none at their craft. Reminds me of old Clifton days. Cantori....know him well. Not sure head to head with K&B is the right strategy. We seem to get numbers when we play music. I made a mistake trying something different with Ozomatli but pulled it as soon as I saw the writing on the wall. Bottom line when the audience feels like some talk and comedy in the am they will go to K&B. When they feel like Greenday, they come to us.

I like music in the morning. I'm sick of talk that is supposed to be funny, but usually isn't. Non-funny talk mixed with too many commercials--that's not good for anyone.

Where exactly is 987 putting the "hurt" to KROQ? Unless I've suddenly lost my ability to read numbers, I'm just not seeing it.

Ah but I love being a pest. In '92 i went to SF to be a pest to KMEL and that was a nice 12 year ride. Good times. At the end of the day we are having fun. The team doesnt follow the "7 second rule," etc. We try to have fun and not take ourselves seriously. We know when Linkin Park comes to town KROQ will get the presents. Listeners dont know what a presents is. Its about who owns it in their minds. We are not the station the listeners expect to hear the next Smashing Pumpkins song on. That's KROQs job to be the destination for breaking new music. Being the alternative leader carries those expectations. Our expectation is when you tune in to say "Hey I like this song." It can be new, current, or otherwise.
