Hey Citadel...

How's that flip from Smooth Jazz to True Oldies in DC working out for ya? ;D

WJZW-FM Citadel Classic Hits 3.9 4.2 2.4 2.5 1.7

You really need to break out either revenue numbers or at least 25-54 numbers to be taken seriously.

Because this, like it or not, is a "bid-ness". And the purpose of a bid-ness is to make money. And as we've discussed before here, it's entirely possible to lose ratings 12+ and gain ratings 25-54. And therefore make more money with lower ratings.

Citadel may be regretting the move. But someone posted last week that Movin is already billing more than the Oasis did.

To your point, an increase in revenue could mean that they are simply selling it now... Not that their ratings are up, down, or sideways.

That being said, good numbers never hurt. ;)

The 2.4 and 2.5 numbers are full-books with the previous smooth jazz format, so it wasn't exactly trending the right direction before the flip. I doubt Imus, which didn't have much listeners before in that market despite being mostly political talk, and piping in a feed of True Oldies, is going to be a winner...

As for smooth jazz (or "smooth AC" now as the consultants are now trying to rename it this week), it keeps losing affiliates month after month with Clear Channel's WSMJ 104.3 Baltimore the most recent to dump it. If the format is doing so great, it seems odd that it keeps disappearing market after market in the last couple of years -- and in most places where it disappeared, no station comes forth to pick up the format to fill the void...

You call it "Citadel" like there is a plan. You should call it Hey Farid. Nobody but him thinks this is a good idea
