Another question, could CC simulcast WKOX into Providence?

If 1430 will no longer be needed by WKOX after the upgrade, can a providence signal be used to give the area a clear signal...or is 1290 still for sale?

1320 in Attleboro is also an option (maybe?)

Suggestion, thoughts please?

Does 1200 do OK into Prov.? I was in that city yesterday and it seemed OK;
though if they do move the tx to Newton, who knows...

I think 1220 was just sold. Who owns 1450 and what are they doing with it? Is 1370 back on the air? Can it be heard in Providence? 990 has been in and out of bankruptcy. Is it in or out at the moment? Last I heard, it was owned by a company that programs SS, but I think that was before the most recent bankruptcy. Is the owner maybe Davidson? They aren't interested in progressive talk, I'm sure.

The problem is that running progressive talk requires an owner with other sources of income because it takes effort to sell the format and time to reach positive cash flow. Without other income to fall back on, an owner who has to cover expenses out of revenues can't wait very long for positive cash flow.

The best hope, then, is for a station with low expenses and an owner with deep pockets.

I take it WLIB doesn't come in well enough to listen to during the day in Providence. The night signal may be OK there--when WOWO remembers to switch to night pattern at night.

After the power increase, WKOX's day signal in Providence will be noticeably weaker than it is now. The night signal, though perhaps better than it is at present, won't be close to listenable--Providence is "behind the pattern," that is, too far west (not to mention south) and MUCH too far away from 750 Saw Mill Brook Pkwy.

Following the resignation of the Christo administration at WBUR a year ago, Boston University has decided to keep 1290 (and 1230 Westerly).

The fact that WHJJ 920 in Providence dropped much of the "progressive talk" programming probably doesn't inspire much confidence in another station to try it there.

I was troubled when I heard your intial analysis....guess Im really going to have to go to XM or keep my pc on good wireless for the stream.

Thanks Dan for answering the questions!

Dan,
As far as I know,WLKW 1450 is owned by Hall Communicatiions and is running parallel to WNBH 1340. WRIB 1220 WAS sold, and will probably keep the religious/ethnic mix. It does have a decent night signal despite running only 166 watts post sunset.WALE 990, is being run by Davidson Media with Spanish.
I'm not sure if the 1370(now with Charlestown RI as CoL)would put a good signal into Providence due to its needing to protect WFEA Manchester ad WNRI 1380 Woonsocket.
