Nothing new that I've heard...

You must've been driving after sunset. WXKS 1430 does cover Boston well on day power/pattern.

Eli, speaking of AM 1430

Eli, why do I get the programming on 530 AM as well?

Is this just when people are driving near 99 Revere Beach Parkway -
is this the signal finding its way onto another channel?

Also, what is as frustrating as the signal is the amount of commercials being aired...they certainly can't have that much business - there are so many breaks, why don't they have a local person do some local newsflashes for
2 minutes. Getting up to turn the volume down every 8 minutes is tiresome,
and the phone rings, one gets involved in business conversations, an hour goes by with no radio. Get up and turn the volume up: COMMERCIALS.

horrible. They have GOT to get some information segments that make people
tune in or - how's this for a novel approach: KEEP THE PEOPLE THEY ALREADY HAVE

That's an IF harmonic created by the circuitry in an AM radio when nearby the transmitter.

They're probably running a combination of national and local ads at relatively low rates. The national ads help keep the network afloat, the local ads are a little more gravy for the stations at the local level. I'm guessing they don't want to sacrifice any of those sources of income for local features, especially if they would have to pay a local feature host, even if it may result in a few more listeners and less listener fatigue due to the long ad breaks.

Funny you should ask TODAY! BRW just reported that the Land Court has overturned the Newton Board of Aldermen's denial of a building permit for the WKOX/WRCA/WUNR triplex at the WUNR site in Oak Hill. The Court gave the City two weeks to grant the building permit. But the City is reported to be appealing the Land Court decision. I think it is most unlikely that any building permit will be granted until the Appeals Court acts--and regardless of who wins or loses in the appeal, it seems likely that the loser will take the case to the Mass Supreme Court. I do not expect any action on the construction for three years--if ever. I think the abuttors' strategy now is to keep the case in court until AM broadcasting is shut down in the US. If enough Newton residents were to become upset over the City's wasting their money on lawyers and appeals, perhaps the situation could change, but I don't know how likely such a turn of events would be.

Re: Eli, speaking of AM 1430

Clear Channel has been announcing that they need a sales force for over a year now and I have no reason to belive that they don't have one.
It puzzles me that they still saturate the stop sets with the same obnoxious, insipid PSA's over and over again with not too many new commercials.
I listen to AA all the time, but lately I've been punching the buttons every time I hear that kid whine EEEWW!, it stinks in here"
Most of the commercial ads are carried over the AA network, or Jones network

The newspaper report that is linked to Mark Schneyder's site: bostonradiowatch.com, says that some of the residents will receive offers from
Champion broadcastng for grounding improvements.
If it does move forward and WKOX boosts it's signal to 50,000 watts, the night pattern will effectively black out clear reception in metro west.
see this link: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WKOX&service=AM&status=C&hours=N
Thust joining the ranks of WHDH,WRKO, and WWZN, and soon WNSH, as flowing flames to the maritimes after sunset.
I know this would NEVER happen, but how about 94.5, or 107.9 as AA?
