Hey KPNX...

...Why don't you give up on WX+ and put something interesting on ch 12.2?

I mean, really. Last week, WX+ is in a continual loop showing radar from central Iowa and west Tennessee. A lot of help for Phoenix. Then, over the weekend, WX+ goes down and ch 12.2 is left as color bars with a test tone. Today, WX+ is back, but this time with no sound and a horrible picture.

Phoenix already has the Weather Now loop on ch 5 and goAZ Weather/Traffic on ch 15. How about giving us Universal Sports? or AntennaTV? or now Me-TV?

Gannett's done Universal Sports in a few places, and picked up RTV in one market, but otherwise I think has just weather subs.

Shouldn't KPHO be the one to drop its weather subchannel? They really are clueless on where to program their "three-hour rule" shows. I mean, what if there is severe weather on a Sunday evening and instead of the radar, someone tunes in and finds Gina D's Kids Club? They really need to rethink that strategy and program the E/I shows at 12pm daily, when the main channel has a live newscast.

Personally, I'd rather see TheCoolTV before seeing Universal Sports on a local subchannel (I'm sure I'd watch it more than "IZ Videos" 38.3, which has added infomercials at odd times). Belo seems not to care about marketing or fighting for cable carriage for This TV 3.2, so I don't think we'll be seeing anything on 61.2 anytime soon.

You mean subchannels also have to air some quota of E/I crap? Who made the rule
(probably some feel-gooder at the FCC) that TV stations had to be babysitters? ::)

Every subchannel on a full-power and Class-A digital station has to run three hours of separate E/I programming. It's an unnecessary rule in this age of so many programming choices, but the FCC thinks there's more important things to worry about. Think of it as the legacy of Peggy Charren and other holier-than-thou individuals.

As far as I'm concerned both KPNX and KPHO can dump their weather subs and just leave us with the one from KXNV - it's both weather and traffic.

Alright, if I could program Phoenix TV, let's dump the KPHO weather and put The Cool TV in its place. Dump the KPNX weather and put Universal Sports there (NBCU network on an NBC affiliate - it just fits. I would like a sports channel w/o having to get cable/satellite.) While I'm at it, throw V-Me on one of the Spanish-language channels, so the Spanish-speaking community can have their own public TV. Give me CTN and CTVN on Daystar's ch 48. Mexicanal and VasalloVision can fill in Azteca's 41.2 and Estrella's 42.2, in either order. KSAZ isn't carrying anything extra - how about Tuff TV there? Put Antenna TV on KASW when it launches. Once KPVY gets moved into the valley on ch 45 (RF 45 - KUTP 45.x is on RF 26), KM Communications can put America One there and make it a "repeater" of KCFG 9 Flagstaff, also an America One affiliate. Keep K38IZ Digital the way it is, except open up that fifth subchannel like they've been claiming for 18 months that they're going to do, and make it an infomercial channel, clearing the way for 38.3 (IZ Video) and 38.4 (IZ Hope) to just be videos and Christian, respectively.

Finally, have all the Spanish-language nets put English on their SAP channel. Welcome to Dave's World!

Channel 12.2 now is showing a Windows XP desktop that is just sitting there (of course, that is the best way to not get viruses or spyware on a Windows machine).

Old infomercial for Micro$oft, perhaps? ;D

It is peaceful, in a "Sound of Music" sort of way.

I prefer kpho's weather channel as opposed to kpnx's effort. Watching KPHO during the local stormy season is better by far.

I also agree that the three hour e/i block is unnecessary.

And no doubt some stations' treatment of E/I have an air of "We do it because we gotta", instead of actually taking it seriously.

There's a reason why stations don't take E/I seriously (other than PBS): there's only two shows in syndication that are actually high quality shows, and they're both hosted by Jack Hanna.

E/I is what's keeping FOX 10 from competing on Saturday mornings. But 5.2's scheduling on Sunday evenings is just hasty.

Why? Other Fox stations (e.g. Portland) run weekend am shows. Just push the E/I back a couple of hours and don't run all the infomercials!!

Fox10 is being cheap and doesn't want to hire more people to staff a weekend am show. They just want to make money from infomercials -- amazing for an O&O.
