Roger Brown today wrote "Michael Luczak is celebrating his second anniversary as the sports station's program director. Among the accomplishments Luczak proudly touts: gradually raising the amount of time Clevelanders spend listening to WKNR each day; establishing a high school football "Game of the Week" series; giving more airtime to promising talent such as Gene Winters, Neil Bender, Mike Catan, Jason Gibbs, Josh Sabo, Antonio Castro, Eddie Mularz, Christina Yohn"
In my worst Jim Rome impression: Memo to program director, just simply putting OCB graduates on the air in no way makes those individuals "promising young talent." What exactly makes them "promising young talent?" Nobody, including their immediate family members, has ever spent one minute listening to ANY of those alleged personalities and has ever come to the conclusion that ANY of them have staying power in the radio business. Can Mike Catan go out and sell himself to listeners and sponsors?? Could you pick Josh Sabo's voice out of lineup?? The test of I've used before to gauge radio talent is the "Did you hear what _______insert radio talent's name_____ said today on the air??" I've heard that said about Howard Stern, Mike Triv (love him or hate him), Rush Limbaugh, Lanigan, Les Levine....i've never heard that about one single individual on WKNR. Eddie Mularz, the guy who stutters through 5 second lead ins to traffic updates and a sponsorship reader? If you honestly can't do 5 seconds stutter free in radio, you absoultely need to consider a change of occupation.
