Hey Mike1.....its Iggy Time

Just checked the 92.3X website and your long awaited Iggy profile is up. Chock-full of interesting little tid-bits about Xtreme's second-worst DJ. I don't mean to be hard on the guy, but the other night he went on and on about how what a hassle it is to order food, and a few nights before that he went on and aon about how much he hates text messages. Multiple stop-sets full of complaints. Not to mention he also got up on his soap-box about how awful the new Weezer album is.....so does that mean everytime Xtreme plays "Beverly Hills" or "We're All On Drugs"...we should change the station?? He's probably working really hard and I think its great that 92.3X is live loud and local all day long (well, except for overnights that is) but I'll take the Big Rig piped in from Tampa from 7-12 over Iggy any night of the week.

Also as far as who Xtreme is trying to appeal to with their expanded playlist, that is up for debate. Its like they are trying to be alternative, while keeping one foot firmly planted in active rock territory. Fact is that most people who like Coldplay and Bloc Party probably don't like Godsmack or Metallica, of which Xtreme still plays a lot of. They do sound 100% better than they did 6 months ago....but I say if your going to be an alternative rock station, don't do it half-ass....go all the way.

Rock Radio is in a transition period, as PDs and GSMs are trying to figure out how to appeal to what is left of their audience, and how to attract and keep the listeners in their target demos...

Infinity is tweaking the Extreme format in a number of markets, including Las Vegas, where it was born and has had its most consistent success..

No doubt Infinity's rock transition period is going to last into this fall (if they kick Stern off in September) or into next year (Stern's contract is up in January).

The "what do we do?" in the Infinity clusters and HQ isn't just the "X-Treme" (active vs. alternative) debate; it's also what to do with the abundance of "K-Rock" formats (kind of a hybrid classic and modern rocker), like the newer one in Pittsburgh.

This debate will always go on as long as rock continues to fragment into sub-sub genres: what do we have now--

Classic Rock
Modern Rock
Alternative Rock (sometimes called Alternative)
Active Rock

Plus, there's Oldies stations which sometimes overlap some classic rock artists, like the Beatles and Stones); Hot ACs which play some output from the likes of say Blink 182 or Three Doors Down; and college stations which are getting more numbers (I'll say this: WBWC has the numbers to back up their programming choice!)

So, the Infinity decisions here in Cleveland (do we keep classic rock post-Stern? Do we keep the "active" rock on 92.3? Or do we try to fill the alternative niche? Maybe neo-classic rock (90s stuff)?) are of the type going on around the country, in markets from New York to Nashville, in Florida and in Fargo (if Infinity has any rockers there).

Personally, bring back the alternative. But that's just me--I can't stand Metallica.

Re: Infinity Rockers

Well.. After reading that profile on XTM's site i'm still not impressed with Iggy on your radio dial.. Bla Bla Bla.. They would be better off doing just going closed board for their evening hours just like they do for their overnight hours.

Call it "Rover in the morning and nothing but sweepers all day and night long"

No wonder they are 13th in the cleveland 12+

Rumor has it that he's not allowed to do phoners and pretty much anything but announce the songs, read the station promo's and don't forget that it's IGGY ON YOUR RADIO DIAL..

Hopefully he understands his weight in the cleveland radio community.

I'm not a big fan of iggy either. He has no personality. I would have prefered they put Verlane in the night spot. And since were on the subject of Xtreme dj's how in the hell can Kim Monroe let a god awful dj like Fenix on the air? The guy sucks. The guy is constantly messing up. I though he'd get better but he's getting worse. I thought Andy J and Foz were horrible but Fenix gives new meaning to the word.

Slats and Racheal Steele....the only two Xtreme DJs who are anywhere close to being good. BTW Foz is now over on WONE and he messes up royally there as well...not to mention you can clearly tell he is not all that excited to be doing a classic-rock driven format. Someone please tell me...if broadcasting is supposed to be such a competitive industry....how the hell do these people have jobs??
