Look at this:

"Texas Pair Sold
ADABETH ROUTT is selling Country KCKL/MALAKOFF, TX and Gospel KLVQ-A/ATHENS, TX to LAKE COUNTRY RADIO, L.P. (STANSELL COMMUNICATIONS) for $550,000. "

That is pretty damn cheap. It appears Adabeth wants to get out of the business all together. The new owners should move the studio of KCKL to the Main street of Gun Barrel City so it would be visible and perhaps increase sales. KLVQ I would just let its 250w go dark. I don't think Pat is part of the new ownership group.
KCKL was hit with a series of fines for EAS and other problems and according to one FCC district rep. He didn't see "how they could afford to pay the fines." Adabeth when I met her was a pleasant person ,and I wish her well.

That's not much money....you'd expect it to go for much more.

Can they be moved to a larger market area??

To pick up those properties for just $550,000 is a steal. Besides the potential FCC fines they were facing were there any other issues that caused the price to be so low?

I agree it is not much . It appears that is all she could get and wants out in a hurry. It's either that or a promise not to change KLVQ;'s format, which she loved, but was not making a cent. The Ranch would have been in a good position to pick it up,but since they got that Kerens property at 106.9 it would've been moot.
AS I said the new owners ned to get the station out of Malakoff and into Gun Barrel City perhaps Mabank. I wouldn't be surprised if Athens was the choice however.

Adabeth wants out. She has had it according to one source. Ther are bills piling up, too many tradeouts, the long time news director left last year. If she had only gottne Pat to leave and brought in someone to run things that knew what they were doing, then she most likely would not have selled. Pat is Mayor of Malakoff and has been for a long time and that may have been a factor in not replacing her.

Even though I will be accused of being someone else, I couldn't help but comment...let's see, Ray, Pat has been with KCKL since September of 1983. From what I understand, you didn't last one year there. Then, again, you're most certainly NOT Malakoff Mayor Material. From the aircheck I heard from your days there at KCKL, you weren't much of a jock...even on that level. I wish Adabeth and Pat all my best. I have known them both for a very long time. Edd Routt was my mentor in my early radio days. I spent a lot of time at his home in Star Harbor, helping him put KCKL together in the beginning. Pat may not be much of a radio person, but she could teach you a thing or two about keeping a job. Now, go ahead, and call me Dude, Bucky, whatever ya want. I think it's very funny that you don't know my true identity. Maybe you'll send me another aircheck with your picture on the disc. I'm still scooping cat turds out of the litterbox with the once you sent a couple of years ago. Now, I have a break to do on the radio. So, I'll let you get back to stocking the cooler at 7-11.

DUDE:You must be that scum in Mount Pleasant, who never made it past a small market. The person you mentioned that worked at KCKL RESIGNED because Pat refused to fire an announcer there who continously called in sick, but was caught coming out of a liquor store. Driving on I-20 I caught your show. If it was that. You could cure sleep apnea. No wonder you're still there. According to some others who had worked with you,you found a reason to let them go,because they could actually be entertaining, something you still struggle with to this day. You resort to childish antics of "scooping cat turds",which measures the level of your ability to do radio quite well. Next time you go deer hunting, make sure you point at the deer. You obviously had too many misfires in your brain.

Wrong again! You have no idea who I am. Get it right and I'll be the first to step up and say you're correct. You are the biggest freak on this post. Though, I will admit that it's quite entertaining to read the venom you spew here, Ray. Uh, I mean, KPLEXCOMPLEX. (You really ought to check and see what name you've signed in under before you post your comments.) Again, you don't know who I am. Though, you must know of me. Afterall, I did receive your awful audition CD. Maybe you can go back to KCKL and try to make a better one now that the evil Pat will be moving on. Tell Jim Stansell I said hello. I worked for him from '89-'94. I'll put in a good word for you. Wait! I just realized why KPLEXCOMPLEX always comes to your rescue...he must be your lover. Good luck to the both of you. You were made for each other.

DUDE:

Try to be creative. You seem to struggle with the truth quite a bit. You're completely wrong yourself, Your name identification association with others. (I'll let that one soak in for you, I realize it may take time. )Is off base and definitely wacked. I worked with the person you mentioned and he is doing quite well on and off radio and making a helluva lot more money than KCKL or that pit you're located at,and he's still in the media. Nice to know you know Jim Stansell, that's wonderful. Perhaps he'll offer you a job mowing the lawn there. Then again that might interfere with your plucking job at Pilgrim's on the weekend. Hang in there your dimmited IQ qualifies you as an OM at a low power fm.

Gun Barrel City IS a larger market :)

Isn't it close to Dodge City?
