Clint O'Connor FINALLY gets around to talking about the multiple WKSU internet streams. But, much like the other lumbering grey ladies, it's about a week and a half too late.

We here at cutting-edge Radio-Info brought it up on August 12.

The more I read it, the less relevant the Plain Dealer becomes. It must be awful having the whole media and city rely on you, huh PD?

Roger Brown

Wait a minute. "Word is" that Roger Brown checked this story out for himself.

Re: Roger Brown

"Word is" Roger Brown has a clue. Oh never mind.... that was just an unsubstantiated rumor from an unnamed source that we printed anyway.

I've held back for some time. But damn it, get ready Newhouse. This one's for you.

Early in June, PD Editor Doug Clifton commented in the New York Times about the jailing of NYT reporter Judith Miller. Judith was enguled in the whole Valerie Plame kerfuffle, and refused to disclose her sources. For disclosure, the PD is affiliated with the NYT wire serivce.

That whole story I don't wish to go into detail over. But he dropped a bombshell when he said that two major stories were being held back due to this whole very incident.

We know about one of them. That's the story on the Nate Gray corruption trial, with tons of damming evidence leaked to the PD from a worm in U.S. attorney Greg White's office. Expolsive stuff.

Only The Scene - an alternative weekly that's FREE for the taking!!! - beat the PD to the punch, and broke the story first. Pentagon Papers, they weren't.

Why do I say all this? Because keeping Roger Brown gainfully employed denigrates the whole sports section. Yes, I read his droppings - and have cited them in the past, but only after picking them apart like a hungry wolf.

But it's in the The PD - an alleged "respected news source." People who don't know this idiot's past will read him in the paper, and BELIEVE IT. Paul Hoynes and Tony Grossi both have had to correct Roger in THEIR columns, and the Cavaliers threatened to sue him over the "Zydurnus has osterpoisius" lie.

The PD is an absolute joke. Incompetent. Worthless. Just like the city, and Triv.

Well, it hasn't been determined who leaked those FBI reports. It's easy to accuse the US Attorney's office, but EVERY DEFENDANT AND HIS COUNSEL, including those whose clients have already pled guilty, had access to the FBI reports (under the criminal discovery rules). It could have been any one of them too. Just saying.

It's been that way ever since Tom Feran was scooted over to be a bi-weekly columnist as a complement to Connie Schultz. I'm really not fond of Clint's work.

For as much grief as I give "Good ol' Roger Brown," he HIMSELF gives more of a commitment to covering the radio scene (albiet in a sports angle) than Clint's bare-bones coverage, if ever at all.

Re: XXX MAJOR RANT ALERT XXX: Roger Brown and the Pitiful Dealer

Something just occured to me...First, let me say I too have been critical of Roger's column (see the wwf analogy in an earlier post), but ask yourself, as I have, if Roger was fired/replaced/sold his home in Strongsville for $350,000(just kidding on that last part...reference to Roger's fondness for real estate), would you miss him?
I'll be up front and honest..much like some successful radio and tv personalities, part of why I look for to his column, is to see what he's going to say next...There, I admit it. It's crap, but I rarely miss a Wednesday, Friday, Sunday and esp. Monday edition.
...it's o.k., you can admit it too. After all, we do spend a considerable amount of time talking about him and his column, for better or worse.

I feel liberated.

Is it too much to ask that they do at the very least, a Cleveland Media "coming & going/what's new"-ish feature? Did Robin leaving the Fish make the PD? How about Kasper returning to KISS from Philly? Or a new PD hire at MIX? A good-bye to Lee Ann Sommers? I mean, come on. Several cities have this in their papers. Maybe someone should send Clint a link to this board to help hom get started :)
