WXEL-HD2 to be programmed by FAU

I explined this once before on r-i, maybe the
concept just isn't widely understood outside the
working press.

A PRESS RELEASE (a/k/a NEWS RELEASE) means
they WANT you to reproduce what they are sending
out and no permission is required. This does
not conflict with rule 3.

FAU and WXEL Sign MOU to Develop
FAU Digital Radio Broadcasting Program Service

BOCA RATON, FL (March 15, 2006) - Florida Atlantic University and WXEL Public Broadcasting Corporation (WPBC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an FAU radio program service to be broadcast over a WXEL digital audio channel. The service will draw on the expertise of faculty and students to create broadcast quality programs promoting the arts and sciences. The MOU also addressees the participation of FAU and WPBC representatives on community and university advisory boards.

“This is a great opportunity for FAU to enhance its commitment to the communities of South Florida, through programming that will entertain and inform a growing digital-radio audience,” said William A. Covino, dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.

FAU digital radio will be a non-profit, non-commercial educational radio program service that will complement WXEL’s current FM programming. Possible FAU programs include hosted classical music programs, hosted world music programs, programs previewing CDs produced by FAU’s students and faculty through FAU’s music labels, interviews with FAU artists, educators and scientists, weekly magazine-format local news programs and coverage of FAU sport events.

"We are confident that the new WXEL will be strengthened by this tremendous partnership with FAU. The University's phenomenal resources will be more accessible through WXEL radio, and radio's service to the community will be enhanced dramatically by FAU's programs. We hope this digital radio channel is only the beginning of a long and productive relationship," said Carmen M. DiRienzo, vice president and managing director of the Educational Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), parent of Thirteen/WNET and WLIW in New York. EBC and the Community Broadcast Foundation of Palm Beach have partnered to form the WXEL Public Broadcasting Corporation, proposed future licensee of WXEL radio and television.

The FAU digital radio will be programmed by FAU’s department of communication in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters for the purpose of fulfilling FAU’s mission to provide educational outreach to the communities it serves. The agreement is for a 10 year period, with the option to renew for two additional five year periods, contingent upon FCC approval of the license transfer of WXEL.

For more information on FAU’s digital radio program, contact Dr. Susan Reilly, chair of FAU’s department of communication, at 561-297-1095 or [email protected].
______________

Re: WXEL-HD2 to be programmed by FAU

Since when did you do the splaining for R-I or FAU?. Is that the School with Paula & Steve who welcome you to all the Judge shows on WSVN and WB39?.

some splaining to do: news release

I must be getting old.

Sometimes I can't tell the difference between
someone trying to be funny and someone posting
something absolutely clueless.

After reading the above over and over, I
finally chose to assume the former because
of just one little Spanish word: splaining.

But I still don't know what the [no carrier]
he's talking about.

And I guess my two paragraphs went over
his head, too:

Re: some splaining to do: news release

I do press for non profits myself; I just didn't want to do
anything that would get myself banned or RI in trouble with
any other site for unauthorized reproduction or anything of
the sort.

Kind of "an ounce of prevention...." thing, you know??

This is still the Internet, remember? lol If people don't want links or even news releases put out there for ALL to see, I can respect that, as I'm sure the vast majority of folks here handling press information can appreciate.

Just like to keep things simple; plus FAU could use some hits on their site lol j/k They get enough of those from students logging in to all the services....

FAU has formulated an agreement with the "proposed future licensee of WXEL" ?
How do you make an agreement with an organization that doesn't own the station?...
Wondering how the FCC would view this.

After further research, I see that this agreement would only become effective IF and when WPBC
becomes the licensee of WXEL, which is uncertain at this time. There are other bidders, and the
FCC has already rejected WNET's purchase of WXEL-FM/TV. The sale of the stations has been
in limbo for years. So this new HD service will not likely be starting any time soon.

Radio Guy 2004,
You posted a press release from March 15, 2006. I just noticed the date.
This "memorandum of understanding" is history, since the FCC rejected the
application of WPBC to buy WXEL.

Agreed. Here we are 2 1/2 years later, and WXEL is still in limbo.

A shame......

Props to ai4i for digging up one of my old threads BTW; I'm honored! :)
