Hey, The Guy Who Listens To WWZN

It appears that WWZN is broadcasting Sporting Gnus Radio from noon till 2:00 pm today. Has the show with the two loco, I mean local hosts been cancelled; are they on vacation; in jail; their wives told them to get a REAL job? Or what? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think that guy may be you Laurence....

Like many other radio "geeks" I may monitor stations to which I never "listen"; for example, the Russian language shows on WAZN to see if they've solved the dead-air issues they had previously(they have); ESPN on 1400-AM to see if the Lawrence transmitter is up and running properly (it is); commercial breaks in English on Spanish-language stations like WNNW and Radio Rumba...these are usually from national advertisers like Geico and Wal-Mart who, you'd think, could afford to produce Spanish-language spots!

I don't agree about Spanish language spots. The format is Latin, that doesn't mean the listeners can't or don't speak English. Most Hispanics speak English, and the younger generation speaks English as their first language, not Spanish.

It absolutely wouldn't pay Geico to have spots produced en Espanol for the Massachusetts market; Gieco does not sell insurance in Massachusetts! They have not done so since 1973 or 1974 when the company nearly went belly up. I remember that time all too well; I had my auto insurance with them at the time. I assume that the commercials run here because a) they must be part of national buys and b) with the change in the auto insurance laws here, Geico must be thinking about the possibility of returning to Mass. All those spots probably make it #1 in name recognition among auto insurers in Mass and I bet almost everybody thinks they actually do busines here.
