Hey Washington, wake up!

Seriously, a format change in the tri-cities, a rebranding in Spokane, and a frequency swap in Yakima all happened in the last 2 weeks and no mention of any of it here? What's wrong with this board? If KIXZ had a 1.7 as Hits, I'd forecast about a 2.1 or 2.2 as Power. The imaging sounds a lot better now, but honestly the Premium Choice CHR format that CC runs isn't that great. I would personally listen more often if they ran the version of Ryan Seacrest's show that did not allow music customization with Elvis Duran in mornings and I guess now Jackson Blue in afternoons with the rhythmic PC feed the rest of the time.

In Yakima, can confirm KBBO and KTCR swapping. KBBO comes in much better and the AB for KTCR seems a bit wider. Sadly, that's the only thing happening on the radio dial, I guess except KYXE (104.9) going off the air sporadically. Frankly, the best thing to happen to the commercial Yakima dial is either KATS getting HD and throwing KNDD/KEXP or their own Alternative mix on an HD2, KFFM getting Jackie and Bender simulcasted, or KYVT flipping back to Alternative.

Because otherwise, it's a pick of several awful stations, and KFFM slopping on everything that moves.

I find KFFM quite good, but the processing they use on the stream makes it almost unlistenable. In March when I was back there for a conference, I noticed not only KFFM, but KXDD and KRSE created splatter all over the dial. What's wrong with KFFM's current morning show? From what little I've heard of it, it's more music-intensive than Jackie and Bender.

They are certainly better than KHHK, that's for sure. It's not that I don't like the MadHouse, it's light, funny, and yes, very music filled as opposed to KBKS. The station I have the most beef with is KATS. We have no Alternative here in Yakima, with the exception of 90.3 HD2 Which is where KYVT's Alternative format moved to.

This is fine on my Zune HD but...seeing as that's the only HD station out here, unlike when I lived in Federal Way, there is no reason to get a better HD Radio to pick them up with.

Nothing really happens here. I guess the same could be said for TV, The Yakima market is pretty sterile. Been here for six years and nothing has changed. Save for losing a good station and gaining 3+ religious ones.

Was the alternative station on 105.7 or was it a non-com? KATS is actually leaning more alternative than most Active Rock stations do. I guess that's just small market radio, pretty boring. At least KFFM has a mix show on Saturday nights, unlike anything in Spokane where Saturday Night Online is the most interesting thing on the dial and it's on delay.

I wish KRSE "Bob" was alternative. They do have some good picks every now and then but, having visited their studio, it's all Adult, pretty much a mix of KPLZ and KJR (FM). Former alt was KYVT. A Non-com which is now an NPR news repeater.

When we're traveling over White Pass to the eastside I'll tune in "Cherry FM" (forgot the call letters) when in the Yakima area, unfortunately I loss them just past the rest area traveling north. Seems like a few years ago they were playing hits of the 60-70's, now it's 70-80's?

That would be KARY 100.9. They tend to be 50s to 70s. KRSE is more 80s and 90s fare.
I always got KARY and KPQ mixed up when I first moved here oddly enough. I am constantly impressed I can get KPQ with such a clear signal but, given their TX location I shouldn't be too surprised.

KFFM is a heritage top 40 CHR. Been around for decades with a great signal around Yakima.
Never really noticed the KBBO and KTCR flip - I rarely get those stations at night here in Marysville. But KIT is very "normal" on skywave.

I noted that KOLW flipped to "Hot" 97.5. Rhythmic Contemporary to likely compete with KUJ 99.1. I think my favorite Yakima station is likely 92.9 The Bull (KDBL) - I listen to that station whenever I make it to Yakima. (which is very rare nowadays). KFFM created splatter on 106.9 - which mainly blocked KMOK - as well as a little on 106.7. KWVN 107.7 does just fine however when I'm done there. KDBL did some damage to 93.5 and 93.9 (but I was in Wapato, close to their transmitter - Zillah I think?) 93.5 was mainly KWDR Royal City and 93.9 was a weak KTAC Ephrata.

My musical tastes reside in the Alternative/Indie rock and EDM are (think KNDD/KEXP, KNHC) So KDBL isn't my music but of the country stations, I do like KCTR-AM out here. My "favorite" (read: most tolerable) stations here are: KFFM > KATS > KHHK > KRSE. Most of the FM dial that isn't a Yakima station is distant Tri-Cities FMs like KORD, KXLE in Ellensburg. The only Seattle FM I have heard here oddly enough was KBKS fighting with KZFN.

Only FM DX'es I have logged are CBU from BC, another from BC...Can't recall the call or brand, and have heard KZFN out of Moscow, ID. I regularly get KIRO (regular), KOMO, KFI, and a sports station from Calgary. (AM).

You are in a great spot for DX! Sports in Calgary is CFAC-960 kHz. (SportsNet 960).

You should be able to get KZFN and KBKS very regularly. Also, try 94.1. I have heard three different 94.1's on that frequency when I was in the Wapato/Toppenish area. KMPS Seattle, KCLK Lewiston ID, and KXIX Bend OR. Bend is about the farthest I've heard at 180mi. Also, KISC 98.1 and KEYF 101.1 do well from Spokane. Have tried to get KMBI 107.9, but I had a K-LOVE translator on that frequency from Sunnyside (K300AP).

Before that KYXE thing came on 104.9, I used to get K285FN Kennewick West very often when they were Smooth Jazz (translator of KUJJ - now KZIU). Also KNLX Bend OR with Christian music which is mainly // KNLR. Another odd frequency was 104.5 - I had a very weak Mexican station on that frequency (Believed to be pirate). Also 100.5 is a pirate in Yakima with Mexican (I think it was owned by a church).

To the west, the farthest I got was a few Seattle's (KJAQ, KMPS, KBKS), KOMO 97.7 Oakville and KXTG 95.5 Portland (now KBFF). To the east, it was Spokane and Lewiston, ID.
To the south it was KXIX 94.1 Bend, KWLZ 96.5 Warm Springs and 104.7 KCMB La Grande (over KKRV).
