Assuming Rooster rolls over and dies, “Jill” would be Clear Channels answer to Jack, except the format would appeal women 25-to-54 & 18-34 & 35+

Any thoughts on “Jill”

"Lite 92.7/fm" changed format Friday morning and is calling itself JILL/fm. "Lite 92.7/fm" is part of a three-station simulcast of three Class A Amaturo Group of stations - KELT-Adelanto, KLIT-Fountain Valley, and KMLT-Thousand Oaks. When "Arrow 93" dropped its Classic Rock format a few months ago and adopted a jockless expanded playlist with an attitude called JACK/fm, some had speculated here that a similar attitude emphasizing softer AC hits could be called JILL/fm. Others, like Don Elliot, went to the length of creating some tongue-in-cheek liners.
Well, it happened. "It started evolving Friday morning at 10 a.m.," emailed KMLT Consultant George Johns. "We have JILL stopping records, jingles and spots in the middle and pulling them off the air. This part really is fun. Then a full blown JILL will emerge in about two weeks. This part is so fun, I might have to put things on just so I can stop them in the middle and take them off. I have a Canadian actress doing the JILL liners etc. My plan is to take it into every market where JACK or SAM or BOB is and say, 'yeah, just like that except for women." George indicated that there will be an improved signal in about 30 days.

Joe Amaturo, the owner of the trimulcast stations, owned KMJQ-Houston and launched Country KFRG in the Inland Empire.

Interesting read. The name is not as important as the format. And I'm just convinced that someone will go after women. What station flips is open for discussion but I think there is opportunity for someone to take advanatage of the current situation and add some nice demos to their portfolio of stations.

I also think another AC station /"Jill" in Jax is way more probable than seeing Jack. Hmmm...we may be on to something here...LOL

Joe Amaturo

Amaturo is also no stranger to Florida radio, he owned what is now Spanish WRMA (106.7 FM) in Fort Lauderdale/Miami for many years, during the "Disco Craze" when it was "Studio 107", and later as a Soft AC "Joy 107", and also 98.7 "the Gater", and was responsible for moving in 103.1 FM from Okeechobee, into Palm Beach (that's now the Buzz).
