"Hey Ya!" by Outkast...appropriate for Hot AC?

I heard the song "Hey Ya!" by Outkast on a Hot AC station here in Grand Rapids today (95.7 WLHT). Does anyone else think that song is a little strange for the Hot AC format?

Nah, it's considered to be gold on quite a large number of Hot ACs.

The Hot AC I work for played it when it was a current, and still plays it today as a gold title. When it first came out I thought it sounded a bit out of place. But almost 6 years later, not so much.

With age it has no edge left at all. Plus Hot AC is playing more rhythmic stuff these days. So yes it fits just fine.

Bubblegum rap. I've noticed some stations who want to call themselves "Hot AC" are actually only a tiny bit shy of being either rhythmic or Rock.
The only difference is that they wait on certain so-called "Alternative" Rock titles, or rhythmic pieces until they get a strong foothold in those other formats, and then appropriate them into their mix... depending on which way they are leaning.

I think the song is playable on the Hot AC format. But it seems the format has been changing rapidly in the past year or so. The song has a great beat and should (in my opinion) be used more as a "different" occasional song rather than a regular playlist song. I think the regular playlist should mainly consist of current hits, recurrents from the past couple years (be careful about wearing songs out like many Hot AC's), and some new music.

The song has a great beat, which I feel is very needed for a Hot AC station. In my opinion, a good beat draws the line from AC to Hot AC, but of course, that is getting into an entirely different topic in the forum.
