Hideous Local Commercials

Fieldtech1 said:
Every market has at least one locally produced commercial that just makes you cringe.

This is running in the Lafayette,LA market ........

I was going to counter with Ed Barbara of "Furnti-choo-ess-ayy" (Furniture USA) from the SF Bay Area in the 1980s. IIRC, Barbara did some shady things and skipped town before he could be arrested. Here's the link:

But yours is even worse. Fieldtech1, truly awful! I doubt I'd go in that store if they were giving away free stuff.

I will ***never*** complain about the Bob's Discount Furniture spots again. The only thing I can think that comes close are the locally produced Spanish spots I see when I'm flipping by the Univision and Telemundo stations.

We talkin' bout flea market

(that was the first thing that came to my mind)

For this market, however, I submit:

There was a commercial in the mid 90's for Bobby Denning Furniture in Goldsboro, NC that was bad. I've been looking for it on youtube, but they only show the Rhett and Link commercial. This one was "Where's Bobby?" when Bobby Denning was still alive.

Infomercials during newscasts don't surprise me, as long as you're talking the shorter versions. I was unemployed for a couple of months just over a year ago. Daytime television has a number of 2 to 3 minute "infomercial-lite" ads that run during the daytime shows. They're just abbreviated versions of the longer infomericials.

Someone's YouTube reply to the Ed Barbara video stated that Unsolved Mysteries did a story on him, which was featured in the December 13, 1989 episode. The Unsolved Mysteries Wiki page stated that he had died of cancer while on the run.

I hate to admit it, I kind of liked that one. As local commercials go, it's fairly well produced and the young lady is attractive. Also, that "Walkin' man's friend" rap is the kind of thing that sticks in your brain like glue, and you find yourself humming at inappropriate times. That might be annoying, but it's the point of all advertising; to get people to remember your business.

I hate to admit it but you are right ;D

It got stuck in my head too. But when it comes on during the news it's sooooo annoying.

Yes...but the Crazy Eddie ads were supposed to be over the top and zany. That's what I liked about them, actually! :D

Somebody else mentioned Bob's Discount Furniture, based in Manchester, CT. Yes, the spots with one Bob Kaufmann run ad naseum, especially here, of course! As furniture ads go, why hasn't anybody mentioned Frankie and Johnny's Furniture in the New Orleans area? Even Conan picked up on the wackiness of their place several months ago! ("Letta Have It! With nooooooooooo problem!") ;D

A couple of truly hidoeous ads from the eastern side of the puddle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0-2n8JHc1M (has been running in various forms for over 10 years)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=Z1NE9Sgoa2I (also been around for a good few years now)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUyxIoitg_M (car insurance comparison websites seem to be the big spenders on UK TV of late- with such a big budget they could have come up with something better than this!)

EDIT and how could I forget http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUyxIoitg_M Truly awful!!

I don't have a clip, but in the Phoenix market, it's:

"(almost screaming) Nobody beats Mitch!...(sotto voce) se habla espanol."

I keep thinking...did Howie from "How-WEE-World!" (if you lived in the Phoenix area in the late-'90s/early-'00's, you would know who he was) change his name to Mitch and leased an abandoned bowling alley for his latest venture?
