High Def News

Looks like channel 5 wins the race to have the first high def newscast debuting after the superbowl.

what a budget increase (for make-up)

yeah really...

I shudder to think what they must be investing in the rest of the plant to accomplish that. Passing through network HD is relatively simple. Passing locally-taped material is much harder. Actually producing one's own HD programming requires replacing a pretty good portion of the technical plant.

Not to mention any HD recordings require 4x the disk space...

I wonder how much of the show will be HD? (studio cameras? Graphics? field video? I don't *think* they can do HD live shots since the Nashville market hasn't converted to digital remote gear yet.)

Saw the soft launch at six last night. It looked pretty good the lighting was spot on an they did it right. They mortised the SD video in a frame to fill the screen (much like ESPN does). I was pretty impressed.

Actually caught it last night and it looked great. Know where I will be watching my news now. Field video is in HD. very nice! One negative, thought the new set (news desk) made the anchors look like little people. (politically correct)
