High Definition radio question

Thought I would pose a question for those radio afficiandos out there just to get everyone's opinion, not sure where I fall on this yet. I was listening to 1250 WEAE and they were saying that they are offering all of their programs in high definition radio. Certainly they are not the first to do this, other stations have been doing high def for a little while now, but they may be the first in the market to use the high def channel for simulcasting their normal over the air content. So I ask, is it better for stations with high def channels to use the channel to simulcast their content, but in a much better sounding format, or is it a better use of the high def channel to use it to try to reach another audience niche that may not be served with the current market selection, such as piping a jazz format down the HD channel?

Ponder away!!!!!!

AM stations can only rebroadcast their analog channel in HD, no option for a separate feed on AM.

Indeed, FM stations too *must* (for both technical and FCC reasons) simulcast their analog channel on the first HD channel.

However, unlike AM stations, FM stations have the option of carrying additional subchannels that carry something else.
