Tonight on High Fidelity from 7-11pm on 97.5 FM.The final hour of tonight's show will be a tributeto booking agent and music promoter Ian Copelandwho died Tuesday of melanoma at age 57.Copeland is the brother of Stewart Copeland (The Police)and Miles Copeland (I.R.S. Records). He is credited withhelping to launch the Punk and New Wave rock movementsof the 1970's and 80's. He is largely responsible forestablishing the "club circuit" of smaller clubs thatallowed the punk and new wave bands of the 70's and80's to play throughout the United States. There wasa time when only acts that drew huge crowds couldbook a tour across the U.S. Copeland helped changethat.The many bands Copeland represented and helpedestablish include REM, The Police, The Cure, Squeezeand The B-52's to name just a few.
