just days away new station logo.new general sales manager "THE PATRIOT OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND 990 WALE"

I think your logo is great. I WANT to see other talk stations in R.I.
Thing that bothers me is you need good talent. Arlene, Matt Allen,to draw state wide.
Tom Izoozu belongs on State Interconnent at 3 in the morning. Along with the others mentioned.
If Arlene is truly involved in WALE, those fellows will never be hired. She's not going to lose
her lifes savings on those guys.

The one other thing, CHANGE THE CALL LETTERS. KISS OF DEATH! Walter.

I'm in total agreement with Walter. First, do the repairs at the transmitter site to get back to 50 kW daytime and give the coverage a fighting chance. You want something that will cover a decent part of the state during the day. Second, you want quality talent....not some buffoon who belongs on a cable show. Third, ditch the WALE calls; they should NEVER have come into the Providence market. WEAN, WICE, WRIB, or even the original WLKW calls, if Hall will let them go from 1450, would be better. And to whoever posted this originally, stop believing your own hype. I have much more respect for someone who has the guts to sell straight and honestly rather than with cartoonishly inflated claims.

You guys are correct. The WALE calls should have stayed in Fall River/New Bedford. Those call letters have a horrible reputation. If you want to start fresh it is the first thing you should change.

Sky, Dave, and Walter; I MUST be dreaming! WE ALL AGREE! lol!
The 3 of you should be getting paid as consultants to 990!
I've heard they do have some money to spend
GRAB Matt Allen, carry Laura Ingraham, Arlene, Maybe get into the 'Buddy' bidding,
and Helen Glovers Sub Tony. Except for Laura, it's ALL local, and I mean LOCAL.
Go for it 990! But DO IT RIGHT!!

I agree with dumping the WALE calls. I'm not predicting failure by any means as this might be a good time for a third talker, what with WHJJ not doing a whole lot. A third station could pull some numbers but they probably won't be a major contender. As far as Matt Allen though, why would anyone think he'd want to leave WPRO for a job at an iffy start-up station? Basically you take chances by accepting a job at a station like this & you don't take those chances if you have a bird in the hand, especially since I doubt anyone is going to be paid that well. This will ultimately boil down to selling spots & if that doesn't happen, regardless of pulling some WPRO & WHJJ listeners away they will not last. None of the other possible local talkers being mentioned are doing any radio right now so that tells you something about who will take a chance working there. And again I don't think putting the station on the air is a bad or doomed idea but not one for someone employed in radio to consider for a job.

I wish them success. But to me this just looks like a continuation of what the station was before. Same call letters, Same Bad signal and more Mediocre hosts. It's as if the station just took a Long vacation and now they are coming back to pretty much sound the way they did before. If the listening audience gets the same impression when they tune in, than this thing is going to be in trouble.

Jochitch, Yea As I listen to Matt Allen on this Saturday morning, I agree with you. Here's the thing. Barbra Haynes the G.M. wants Buddy on. Haynes wants to push the Women shows. I think Haynes has made it, so that Allen has NOWHERE to be placed during the week. I also think Dan Yorke s show would be lost without Matt as producer. If 990 gives him a contract and pays him well, maybe it's something he needs to do? Walter.

Walter....

If Barbara wanted the women shows soooo badly as you mention, why bring in Depetro or Barber? Put Pat Mastors on in that spot instead makes more sense; but that didn't happen.
I totally agree with the statement as to why would he leave a paying gig for a start up? Matt has been in the building almost 9 years now (started as an intern with Gio and Kim if memory serves me right) and he seems to be perfectly comfortable doing what he has been doing....also, why leave one of the biggest (if not the biggest) broadcasting companies in the country in Citadel to go to a mom & pop that might not be there in 3 books.....doesn't make sense.

Hi, well actually Barbra would like a 'womens' show on 5 days a week. Radio Girlfriends was just barely on , when Dave Barber was let go. Mrs Haynes has promos on Radio Girlfriends 7 to 8 times a week day.
(a weekend show) Same with Amazing Womem, a weekend show.
No promos for Matt Allen show, a weekend show. Matty is a wonderfully talented young man.
I would like to see him get his truly deserved chance!
I don't see how that can happen at WPRO, sad to say.

Cheers!
Chatty.

In the business.

Why ask me? There are 4 of us who have ALL posted the same thing.
I also KNOW there is nothing going on at 990.
Found that out last night. Thats too bad. My guess is you're
the fellow that belongs on channel 13 at 3 am. Walter.

LOL..... Wow... it would be a shame if this whole WALE thing is a sham. Looks like that is what it's shaping up to be by the latest talk I am hearing. Why would a guy come here and lie about the station getting back on the air? What would be the motivation behind it. That would be CRAZY! But maybe he is. Only time will tell.

Skynet, I dont want to say these guys are lying about WALE going back on the air. The raposa's are painting these guys a rosey picture and are telling them that everything is fine but its not.The place is in major MAJOR M A J A R Debt. I really never dealt with Greg but have dealt with his wife. She bent over backwards on something for me one day and I respect that. They seem to be good people and I have absoulutly nothing but respect for them during my short tenure there. The differance between them and the Bataglias is that the Bataglias were litterally out to screw people. The Raposa's are just in over thier heads who mean well and are looking to get thier heads above water. I hope the station is back on the air soon with new eqiupment.

Sky , Kenny has the inside scoop on this. My guess is Frankie is just having some kicks HYPING.

I dont want to say I know everything about whats going on.I have witnessed enough for my self to know what is fantasy and what is real here.
I'll say this though, I hope people arent giving up thier day jobs to think they are going to make a bundle on this.

You're all better off making an offer for WHJJ or a smaller AM in the area.Hey, Chris Dipaola is looking to do some LMA type deal for his 96.7 LP in Westerly. That and an internet stream may work.

How Matt Allen doesn't have a FT show somewhere in Providence amazes me. He has always been a talented funny guy. I remember training him at his first radio gig... no not over at Citadel, but over at the 1,000 milliwatt blowtorch WXIN at Rhode Island College. He was professional radio material back then. I wish I still had some of the stuff he recorded for his show. Granted, it was college radio, but hey, it was still great! I hope he gets a full time gig soon.

I wasn't going to mention the XIN connection because unless you were in the studio or student union, you didn't know it was there.....but I did my time there too....1989-1993. It seems we trolled the same corridors.....I know a sales guy that would be crazy enough to take on the GSM....it won't work; but he's crazy enough to take it and he was former president of WXIN.

You know, for a little station, XIN's got a great list of people who got their college radio chops there and then went onto bigger and better things in broadcasting... Matt Allen, John DePetro, Davey Morris, just to name a few...

Sorry to get off topic, maybe this one deserves its own thread... guess it depends how big it gets.
