High School Fooball

Are there any radio stations in SC that carries high school football games? 100.9 in Charleston did it 12 years ago (i think they aired Summerville). Anyway just wondering.

(Local TV station WMMP will be airing games every Thursday through the season, not sure if WLCN is carrying Summerville this year.)

WGTR carries Conway HS football on 107.9FM in Myrtle Beach.
WYNA carries Myrtle Beach HS football on 104.9FM in Myrtle Beach.

I think 106.3 WORD (technically, WYRD) in Greenville does something with high school sports, but I can't really remember what they did last year.

WLCN is not carrying Summerville, I don't believe, and I don't even know if they'll have any radio broadcasts this year for the first time in ages (they have been on 94.3 for several years, and before that, WAZS).

Berkeley will air on WJKB 950, and Timberland usually airs on WTUA 106.1. WALI 93.7 will probably air Colleton County games again, and WTMZ 910 will carry a game of the week from different schools around the area. This week, it's Ridge View @ Wando.

We are well covered here in the Lowcountry. Here is the rest of the list of games from WMMP:

Heard a promo on 107.5 The Game that they are doing High School Football again this year. A different game every week.

Yeah, you're right. Here is their list of games (with Emerson Phillips and Tommy Moody):

Aug. 27 Dutch Fork at Chapin
Sep. 03 Blythewood at Lexington
Sep. 10 Brookland-Cayce at White Knoll
Sep. 17 Irmo at Lexington
Sep. 24 Lexington at Dutch Fork
Oct. 01 Brookland-Cayce at AC Flora
Oct. 08 Spring Valley at Blythewood
Oct. 15 Batesburg-Leesville at Columbia
Oct. 22 Spring Valley at Ridgeview
Oct. 29 Blythewood at Irmo
Nov. 05 Irmo at Dutch Fork

Playoff Games: TBA

On this end of the state, WGOG in Walhalla carries live broadcasts of Walhalla, West-Oak, and Seneca High School football games. I believe WRIX in Honea Path carries local High School games as well.

I was wrong about Summerville. They are on 94.3 FM, and their games are taped on WLCN 18. Amazing all the stations on the Grand Strand with games. 107.9, 104.9, 99.5, and 93.9.

WORD broadcasted Byrnes football games last year...I know they're still doing the high school football scoreboard show...but haven't heard anything about Byrnes being on and don't really get much of a chance to listen on Friday nights.

WOW!!! Emerson Phillips is a name I have not heard in a long time... I worked with him when he did Play By Play for LEHS and WPUB!!!!!! He had a passion for the game back then... I might have to check him out if The Game streams.... CC1

1075's website shows they also have a high school coaches show on Saturday morning 9-11 that Emerson does with Jim Baxter of scvarsity.com.

They also have a Friday night scoreboard show after the games that goes head-to-head with Phil Kornblut's statewide show. Man, there's still a bunch of high school coverage around the state. That's great to see with all the cutbacks that have taken place over the last few years.

Oh, I think Magic 98.9 has high school football coaches in on Friday mornings on the morning show, and WLBG in Laurens carries high school football games from LDHS.

I am also glad to see that HS Football is alive and doing well... To a lot of kids this is big for them and to the parents it also gets their name in the community... Althought it is always fun to do a lot of those trips and it is always fun to get everything set the rewards are priceless for everybody involved. South Carolina has always been a big HS football state since a lot of the kids go on to either USC or Clemson thus gaining those teams a lot of loyal listeners as well CC1
