Any discussion of this topic that does not include Mike Remish is not worth conducting.

Clear Channel's Northumberland County signals (BILL 95.3 & Variety 99.7) will broadcast games every Friday. They are a mix of Southern Columbia, Shamokin Area and Mt. Carmel Area.

...and you can't forget about CC's WRAK-AM in Lycoming County. They broadcast Williamsport High School and Lycoming College games.

Hey, hey, at my age I'm happy for any brain wave activity
at all. Not familiar with Spoore or Swingle but do remember
Joe Martin and he was fabulous.
When you grow up in an area, you tend to remember your
favorites, especially in a scope as limited
as high school football. Growing up in Pittston,
I would have no reason to tune in a Valley View Cougar game (unless I had a girlfriend from Archbald who looked like Gina Davis) It does not diminish the importance or the contributions of some broadcasters just because we
don't list them as our favorites. That's the reason I asked for
people to give me a list. This board and its content
is as much a learning experience as well as a forum to discuss
your preferences, mine and everyone else's.

Here's who I remember did what the last 15 years or so

Mike Kaye: WBAX for the longest time, then WARM until a few years ago.
Bill Deremer: Kaye's partner on WBAX, then WICK for 2 or 3 years.
Bobby Day: WARM
Rob Neyhard: WARM, now WILK
Joe Thomas: WILK
Mike Remish, Jim Riley, John McCormick, Al Kopacz: all WICK
Sid Michaels: did games on WICK in the 70s, then again for a few years before being re-hired at WYOU
Dean Corwin: the old 95.7, WARM, now WICK plus the Pioneers & Red Barons
Steve Young & Greg Swingle: WCDL, I think at least Greg is in Honesdale

Apologies to whom I missed...

I guess I could throw myself into this list... at WICK 96-98, plus some fill-in work, and at WPPA/T-102 doing sports since 2000.

> How in the world could I have missed Bobby Day? This
is a major market voice and in any broadcast, his style
was a seamless bridge between quality and tenacity. He'd
get you the facts but read them to you like a lullaby. Bob
is now the Assignment Editor in the newsroom at WBRE TV
after being let go by the people who were in charge of
WARM.

bulletin Board Mentality

> What about Leroy Spoore, What about Greg Swingle....
> What about Joe Martin...
> I think we have the usual valley mentality going on here

I think we have the bulletin board "I know EVERYTHING" mentality going here. The question was..."On High school football, who do you think was the best local play by play announcer? I'll take a top 5 list. " Did YOU happen to see the word "YOU" in there? This means who do YOU remember. Who do YOU like. This is a BIG market area wise. Signals don't reach everywhere and there a lot of opinions here. That's what Yonkstur was asking for. On another note, it was nice to see you could complete a cohesive sentence. ;)

The best high school game Play-by-play and color guys I have ever listened to out of what games I can pick up out of Pittston are the guys that do Berwick football on WFFY 106.5 out of Bloomsburg. I'm not a Bulldogs fan, but it's a pleasure listening to two well-prepared announcers without any uh's & err's. Not saying the other guys aren't good, but IMO Andy & Jim (I think?)are at the top of the list.
