High school football

Hello sports fans! I will be broadcasting live at all the Largo High School Varsity football games. I would love to due the VJ games also but I am on the team so I'll have to be on the field #80 wide receiver. Anyways if your at the game tune into 96.7 fm if not go to our website at www.wkid967fm.com there you can listen and watch the game too via our webcam. Thanks! Adam "A-DAWG" Baker CEO WKID 96.7 fm

Good luck. The most fun I've ever had in a 25 year broadcasting career was doing playXplay for high school football in a small market. In away games, you knew the whole town was listening back home. Remember to talk slowly, don't get overly excited and most of all paint a picture of what you see. Always get the name of the person with the ball and the person making the tackle. Get the down and distance, the yard line, and go from there. Don't copy TV playXplay men, remember on the radio you have to tell the whole story and take the listener to the game.

Thanks for the great advice! We don't know they are going to let us do the away games yet but I guess they will let us know about an hour before the game starts. LOL. If your tuning in and you hear us please call in and let us know how we are doing, please remind us if we forget some of the advice that you gave us during our broadcast. 727-423-9400 "cell" Thanks again!!!

Good advice from Horns. Another thing that I got criticized for at times was not giving the score often enough. One veteran PBP guy used to always make it a point to give the score every time there was a first down. It's one of those things you can't do often enough. Be sure to record yourself and listen carefully as soon as you can. Try to figure out how well someone listening at home would be able to follow the action. Also try listening to other PBP guys like Mick Hubert and Gene Deckerhoff and note how they follow the action and keep the listeners up to date. You'll listen to them a lot differently after you've tried it yourself! ;) One of the things that will happen is that at first you're going to have a hard time keeping up. It's going to be like someone hit Fast Forward on your DVD player, but stay with it and things will slow down.

Good luck!

Rodger, Adam and Eric...take the advise from Mike. Mike is a great guy. If you want pointers as well, call me, I will be more than happy to show you some pointers as well. Ask your dad who I am.

also....try recording a basball game like the Rays off of TV. Get the lineup of both teams. Baseball moves much slower than football so that will give a change to hone your ad-lib time between pitches. Then when you move to a faster paced game you will come off smooth. :)

Great Idea!!! Thanks! We also have done some live broadcasts at the Treshers games and the turned out great. What other sport can a sportscaster take time to eat a hotdog while waiting for the pitch.
