My girlfriend lives in hillsville VA, and has the choice of the following CHRs.. K-92 with their flamethrower signal,,, 107.5 KZL in Winston Salem, and Hot 100.7 in Roanoke, and for Rhythmic she has 102.1 JAMS in Greensboro, and Jammin JJS in Roanoke.. So the question is.... Why is their no Modern Rock or Active Rock station in her Area... They have a few Classic Rock and AOR stations, but nothing that focuses on currents and Harder stuff--Indie Stuff...etc... Why doesn Roanoke and the new river valley not have a Current Based Active or Alternative Rocker????

Roanoke had Z101 (Modern Rock) from 1999 through 2003 and before that, the Buzz (Alternative) was on 100.7 in the NRV. I guess ownership was not happy with the sales support from advertisers., since neither station is around today.

Add Cville, Fredricksburg and Harrisonburg to the list....and I think Winchester lacks of one as well.+

For Cville (east of downtown) and Fredricksburg (south of downtown) you may get 1021 the X from Richmond....and Fredricksburg can also get DC 101 (north of downtown).

Remember when the big group owners wanted the FCC to increase the number of stations one company could own in the market?

One of the justifications was that they could "afford" to provide more diverse and niche-type formats.

How many of those niche formats have you heard lately? If it ain't advertiser-friendly, it's not on the radio.
