Rap/Hip Hop's first major Pop hit was "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang. In fact, the record label didn't even realize what they had initially as the "Rapper's Delight" is the B-Side! When I first heard it, I recall that I found it interesting because it was something different and interesting. However, I don't really recall exactly when I decided that this whole thing was a significant Pop-cultural phenomenon. 30 years into Rap music history, can you recall when you really felt that this was more then just a fad? Definitely by the early 1980s, I knew we had something here.
