Hip Hop in Sacramento

Was listening to KSFM on online and they don't seem to play much hip hop. I know they aren't a Urban but who is in Sacramento? I would think they should be playing T.I. Im Back, Drake's new song, and a couple others. KSFM seems more a CHR without the pop rock. Seems like CBS should of just made the new NOW 100.5 full CHR with some Rhythmic tracks and taken KSFM straight up Urban. Comments from people in the market.

Urban and the PPM don't mix well. Look at the numbers for KMEL and KPWR....way down.

Now 100.5 is still Hot AC/ Adult Top 40.

KSFM are playing the new T.I. and Drake song. While they still have their moments (the old 102), they are pretty much like 107.9. But the current format for KSFM is working, partially due to their heritage also. The reason why KMEL's numbers are sinking is because of management. They don't rep the West Coast, especially the Bay like they once did. They don't listen to the listeners. And their mixes are too soft often and don't have holiday mixes anymore. Hip-hop is still very popular in Sacramento and I do believe this market can use a rhythmic-urban station. But we'll see.

Songs I don't see on Yes.com KSFM's playlist.

"Miss Me" - Drake feat. Lil Wayne
"Bet I Bust" - B.O.B. feat. T.I.
"Im Back" - T.I.

these songs are playing on other CBS Radio stations: WZMX, WLLD, WPEG

I agree with you! I just think it'll be a matter of time before someone gets up from the PPM alter they're kneeling at and realizes it. All the research in the world said the "Bomb" wouldn't work....and it DID....big time! Ofcourse, that was years ago...and the timing was right. My point, the numbers aren't ALWAYS right!

Are you kidding??! The numbers are ALWAYS right! This isn't art exisiting in a vacuum, it's a business -- it's all about generating revenue, which in turn relies on getting ratings. "Kneeling at the alter of PPM"?? Are you people for real? That's understanding how the system works and exploiting it for maximum results.

True, but given KSFM's history, they do sleep on a lot of good hip-hop songs. Well, I'm Back by T.I. is the most decent out of the three you listed.

I guess its safe to say the same for Power 106 down here. They haven't even played "I'm Back" by T.I. nor have they played "Your Love" by Nicki Minaj. Hey Power, stop being a wannabe B96 and actually PLAY hip-hop. And stop playing that Baby Bash song, that song sounds like someone has a seizure.

Yeah, you would think that Power 106 would play lots of hip-hop and rep the West Coast a lot, especially with their wonderful slogan "Where Hip-Hop Lives." From my understanding, the only station in Cali that's playing I'm Back is KMEL.

I agreed, the only real hip-hop station in the west coast is 106.1 KMEL. Besides, its is the only "URBAN CONTEMPORARY" formatted station in the west coast. Other radio station like
POWER 106,
Z90,
99.1 KGGI,
Q104.7,
POWER 92.7,
103.3 THE VIBE,
95.7 THE BEAT,
Wild 106.1,
102.5 KDON,
HOT 94.1,
Q97.1,
B95,
HOT 104.7,
K-WIN 97.7/98.3,
102.5 KSFM,
Wild 94.9,
94.9/1005 JAMZ,
Wild 107.5,
KUBE 93,
104.5 JAMZ,
Wild 101.1,
POWER 98.3,
101.5 JAMZ,
HOT 98.3,
U 92.5,

are not consider to be "real" hip-hop station. They tend to play more pop cross over music. It's 2010, not 2000.

Thats sad... it seems the west coast can't seem to get a REAL hip-hop station. All the hip-hop stations in the west coast seem to lean top 40. East coast hip-hop stations like Hot 97 are WAY better.

i was listening to wild 102.9 in reno on the internet for the 4th of july mix weekend they sounded better then power 106 calli mix i agree power needs to pick it up. maybe it time for them to clean house a little but keep the mixers at power. get rid of sorrry big boy show and start representing all generations of hip hop and dance music right now power not worth listening on the internet same songs in the mix every hour i know they could switch it up and played some electro.
