Hip-Hop on WPOI HD2

Was flipping through stations today to find something tolerable and tuned it 101.5 HD2. I was expecting Star 101.5 but it turns on they are playing Hip-Hop. Doesn't Cox already play some of the music on Hot 101.5. Not to mention you have Clear Channel WBTP. I didn't listen long enough for station name and slogan and what not.

Is Hip-Hop next for 97.1, we'll see. That or Cox may attempt to snatch up a Translator and replay the POI HD2 audio on there.

Finally. ANYTHING is better than those same 200 songs that were repeating on "Star 101.5 HD2". I never understood why they never switched The Point over there when they switched to "hot". Well anyway.... I just tuned in (1:30am) and it sounds to me like a dance / remixed CHR format. Haven't heard any liners or imaging as of this post but it sounds pretty good so far. I'm totally in favor of doing something different with the HD2's. Hopefully this is gonna stick around and give 93.3's HD2 some "competition. HA HA... I know I know... it's HD2, and me and like 4 other people are listening. Since we're talking about the CHR HD2's, I find it interesting that 93.3 HD2 hasn't switched to iHeart's "Evolution" format since the "Club Phusion" format was replaced by it a couple months ago.

It'll be interesting to see if any of the other Cox jukebox HD2's are updated as well.

How comfortable could they be with the Star imaging by someone who is, now, employed by a competitor?

Just heard a liner.... "Hot Remix". Directed listeners to Facebook and Twitter... but I couldn't find 'em according to what the liner said.

Its a dj remix, sounds like the same hour over and over by DJ Ekin. It could grow some legs since FLZ's HD2 is now a jukebox. I sure miss Club Phusion

Not related to the HD2 channel of WPOI but why is radio in general over-saturating the airwaves with Rhythmic CHR and watered down Hip Hop. In 2003 you had WFLZ, Wild 98.7 and 95.7 The Beat to hear Hip Hop and Rhythmic music. Now you have 93.3, 94.1, 100.7 and 101.5 playing quite a bit of this type of music. Maybe not the same artists or same songs but still.

The increased airplay of rhythmic type music is not just solely on CHR stations. Hot AC has taken a huge turn towards abandoning the Matchbox 20 and Maroon 5 for music from artists such as Flo Rida and Pitbull. 100.7 is a prime example as it sounds more and more like FLZ by day.

People like to make accusations of having a playlist that is too "White Bread". "The Eagle", "The Point" and even a few Adult CHR stations have been accused of mainly focusing on music that focuses on white artist, playing very little if any Rhythmic Product. I criticize radio stations that do this, why can't The Eagle play some Earth, Wind and Fire and some Bee-Gees with that Loverboy, that or why did "The Point" avoid playing artists like The Pointer Sisters and Micheal Jackson. However what about radio super-serving, CHR, Rythmic CHR and Hip Hop. Why is there no objection to that. Maybe the radio companies turn a blind eye to super-serving this particular type of music because its the music the 18-34 crowd wants.

Why can't CHR just keep itself balanced genre wise like it was 40 years ago. Also why should Hot AC sound more and more like CHR, especially if the market already has a good CHR station.

Its Cox's fault for firing her during the format flip, she could have worked at any one of their stations. Especially since The Dove and The Eagle are Robojocked, company loyalty my foot.

Because the target audience for these stations is female, and research shows that women prefer rhythmic music.
