Hipster friendly classic rock

No prog rock, and in the Northeast, no southern rock. Elsewhere you might be able to get away with Allman Bros. but not in New York.

WZLX and WAQY, the two major markets Northeast of New York play the Allman Bros. pretty heavily. Why are they not played in New York. (And FYI, WAQY plays a bunch of Skynard too)

because they represent the sound of the south...
I'm much more interested in why NY never played/plays The New York Dolls,Iggy & The Stooges, and Wayne County, who all represented what the first wave of 'new york hipster' was really all about, at the time 'too hip' for radio, who clung to Boston and Foreigner as if they were the rails on the Titanic(and they were!)...iceberg ahead...

Q104 plays plenty of both Allmans and Skynyrd. Southern rock certainly isn't the core of what they play though.

WPDH from Poughkeepsie plays a a lot of southern rock; it's not unusual to hear ZZ Top followed by Skynyrd followed by Stevie Ray Vaughan followed by Tom Petty (yes, they're all Southern). Perhaps being somewhat more rural may have something to do with that.
