Hispanic

The battle for the Hispanic market may be a much bigger fight than the Sanchez organization thought in the Triad. WNOW from South Carolina has a pretty good signal all over the area and most likely will garner bigger revenue shares from that huge signal. WIST dumped the country format for Hispanic a few months ago after CC dumped the format for Rush Radio. Not sure how this battle will end but Hispanic could be a financially rewarding format if done right.

How many Taco stands are in the area that would advertise or are they self=supporting?

What are they showing in the Triad Ratings? They are only showing a 0.6 in Charlotte Ratings, which makes no sense.

There are quite a few businesses out there that would like to have Hispanic customers. Their money is green.

I as told the CC Hispanic station was billing over 200,000 a month .. that ain't chump change in that market! If WIST did half that with little to no expxense they could put some cash in their pockets at the end of the month.

Currently WIST is on target I've being told...around 35k/month, in just two months on the air. People in the Triad started listening to it. Just remember they haven't got any reports yet under the new format, also they don't have the coverage that La Preciosa used to have, but my guess is that they could double their billing in the next few months. WBLO will be changing formats by the end of this year so that will play a factor on it. About WNOW I don't see that station ending this year with the Spanish format.
;)

tropicanamedia, I agree with you! WIST does not need any ratings to be successful in the market but they would help. Hispanic pulled huge 18-34 numbers for CC. Good luck to you guys.

Key to Hispanic in the Triad is local presence, local presence, LOCAL presence. I think LaRaza knows that, so they should do just fine.

That's very true....Their problem is that everything is done out of Charlotte at this time, so announcers aren't in tune what's going on here. They have a van going around the Triad but without organization....They need somebody to help'em out how to do a better job.

;D

truth. You'll never get top 10 ratings...but you'll get plenty of LOYAL $$$ spending customers if you do it right. I just wonder if the larger groups REALLY get it...Just throwing on La Raza or La Preciosa and going after the "Hispanic audience" is like thinking WIST and The Wolf were the same because they were both "country". YOu wouldn't hire a guy from the Jersey Shore to program a beach music program in N.C. The label "Hispanic" doesnt just mean Spanish speaking.

La Raza is owned and operated by Hispanics. They DO get it. If they can hold on long enough and the economy cooperates, I predict they will do very well.

Jajajaja! muy verdadero ;D

Yes LaRaza is owned by Hispanics but not broadcasters! They are learning by "on the job" training and feel they could be way ahead of the curver if they had hired a solid broadcaster to guide them. WIST has a sales team, a van running around town, but no local jocks, not local involvement to speak of, and very little local promotion. In my opinion the way to win in the market would require some degree of "on the street" promotion and certainly some on the air promotion. Visibility is a huge key to winning in any format. Norberto Sanchez is a very smart man but needs some radio help!

I told him the same thing.... We'll have to wait and see if they make any changes in the near future
