Historic WEW

on April 26, 1921 - Weather broadcasts were heard for the first time on radio when WEW in St. Louis, MO aired weather news.

Today - you have Slim and Zella Mae Cox on the same station!

Interesting claim, but not true!

Randall Davidson's 9XM Calling cites the Monthly Weather Review (Jan. 1923) stating that the first voice weather broadcasts began January 3, 1921 over University of Wisconsin station 9XM. Davidson's book suggests an earlier start over 9XM, by the end of 1919. 9XM became WHA on Jan. 13, 1922 and continues to operate on 970 AM as part of Wisconsin Public Radio.

If you accept weather broadcasts *using Morse Code*, the U.S. Navy stations at Arlington, Virginia and Key West, Florida began weather broadcasts on July 15, 1913.
