Historical photos

I've had the pleasure of meeting Christopher Varela this weekend and he shared with me the album of photos which he got from Mrs. Jerry T. Millar, a niece of Alfred P. Daniel of WCAK. I took some snapshots and I've posted a few of them on the blog and there will be more to come, for those of you interested in one of our early radio stations and some of the pioneers - the geeks of 1922! Radio was a new 'science' and these were the tinkerers and experimenters, some of whom went on to long careers in radio.

Hrhwebmaster,

I view your blog regarding Houston radio history on a regular basis and enjoy the infomation you are providing. Keep up the great work!

Here is another site out there that has photos of the early Houston Radio Club, http://www.electrojunk.com/museum/houston.htm.

It is maintained by a gentleman out in Alvin, TX. named Mike Payne for his venture in collecting and restoring antique radios. I used a couple of these photos for my book, Kotton, Port, Rail Center: A History of Early Radio in Houston.

Contact Mike Payne in regards to these photos.

Some comments from a knowledgeable contributor identifying the pieces of equipment and suggesting a time line have been added. Another picture of the house will be added with another view of the antenna.
