Hit 106 on 106.5?

Is the 106.5 transmitter for Hit 106 working? Driving in to work this morning, I was getting Baltimore's 106, and no sign of NJ's 106.5. Did the storm knock it out? No mention on 106.3 (once i got into range of that signal) or on their Web page.

There is tower work currently being conducted at the WBBO site in Bass River Township and our 106.5 listeners may be adversely affected for a few days from time to time while this work is being done. We appreciate your patience while this work is being concluded.

I'm sure it's going to be a real tough, frustrating time for Hit 106 fans who are getting less than stellar reception of their favorite radio station on 106.5. They'll just have to settle for the practically identical 94.3, 95.1, 96.5, 99.3, 102.1, 102.7, and 104.9 until the work is completed. Them's the breaks, I guess.

Hey Matt,

What's up with the audio on 106.3 sounding flat and horribly processed compared to the rich, booming sound on 106.5?

I'm sure with the combination of the reduced power for tower work, and the tropo yesterday morning, Mix 106.5 would be booming in. WWMX has virtually the same format as Hit 106.

I like the audio processing of Hit 106.3, it sounds rather unique.

106.5 generally sounds louder than 106.3. A CHR shouldn't be sounding that flat... Of course, I don't know if anyone could ever sound like Z-100. I guess I'm spoiled.

Must be a signature of Press' stations. Hit 106 (WHTG-FM) DOES indeed sound wayyy overly compressed and I would agree that the sound on WBBO is noticeably sharper. Their middays and nights too for that matter sound WAYYYYYY overly modulated and distorted when the jocks do their breaks which tells me that since it's only those 2 dayparts that they are VT'd which would come as no surprise. What DOES surprise me is that this has been the case since the flip from G to Hit. Is ANYONE listening?? Matt Knight?? Hello... someone...??? Perhaps your Chief Engineer hasn't noticed?

In addition (and this is something that has been the case for years) The Breeze (WWZY) on 107.1 sounds FLAT, MUDDY and HOLLOW essentially like there is NO compression what-so-ever. Conversely WBHX 99.7 sounds sharper and crisper much like WBBO. Perhaps the Bass River site has better calibrated audio-chains.

:p

WWZY from what I heard has a Omnia 3fm for an audio processor - and it takes a whole lot of tweaking to get anything that sounds nice out of that box....the flip side is its very easy to make it sound terrible. They need to get a Omnia 6 or a 8500 to sound good - and then have someone with a good pair of ears tweak it.

I've noticed for a long time that the DJ voices on WWZY often sound distorted, as if they have the vocal phase scrambler turned off and the additional negative peaks of the live mic audio is running straight into the clipper. But otherwise the music processing sounds fine for their format -- not too squashed or distorted, and good for long TSL, which goes hand and hand with their unusually expansive playlist.
