Hit Music, Mixes, & More

Does anyone know if there was an 8:20pm mix on WWVA today, or if there was any mix at all during the evening?

Considering the snow and ice storm we are experiencing, most people were stuck indoors at home.

I sort of doubt it, but I wonder if this has anything to do with Ashton Martin Music by Rick Ross playing 3 times in 80 minutes?

By the way, my music predictions: I'm looking forward to some of the new hits that are bound to hit Q100 rather shortly. Among this list of potential hits, *"Hey baby" - Pitbull ft T-Pain, "Waiting for the end" - Linkin Park, *"more" - Usher, "who dat girl" - Flo Rida, and somewhat likely, eventually *"black & yellow" by Wiz Khalifa. I can also see some Christina Perri making their way into Q playlist as well, but probably not Sara Bareilles..... (I'm mostly looking forward to "hey baby" by Pitbull ft T-Pain (and Q100 shouldn't be the only Atl. station playing this hit once they start doing so....))

As far as rhythmic hits, "Tonight" by Enrique Iglesias, "Buzzin" by Mann, "Moment for life" by Nicki Minaj & Drake, and "Rocketeer" by Fareast Movement are the likely (if not some already) WiLD hitters to soon come! I'm not exactly sure about Jeremih "put it down on me", but I wouldn't be too surprised if Kanye West "all of the lights" were added on WiLD in the near future. (I also see Rick Ross, Rihanna, and Waka Flocka Flame holding on tightly within the top 10 position and "Grenade" by Bruno Mars continues to heavily hold & maintain the top 3 position).

Whatever I left out are hits that currently remain rather questionable, or I doubt will have an impact within Atlanta, but we'll see....

Well...might of been on automation. They haven't syndicated Elvis Duran for the past 2 morning due to the snow & ice storm. David J has been doing mornings.

I want to add Britney Spears "hold it against me" to my WWWQ adds prediction list. I'm sure WWVA will be using it in a mix as well, SOON.

Q100 added "Hold It Against Me" today it looks like and they've been playing "Rocketeer" (thank you Q100!) and "Stereo Love" is only played during Billy Bush and the top 40 countdown on Sunday morning (if it's good enough for top 40 it is good enough for your regular playlist!). They are also still dayparting. The songs I hate: John Mayer - Daughters, Train - Drops of Jupiter, Crazy Town - Butterfly, Stereo MC's - Connected (wtf?), All Saints - Never Ever, Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want... Q100, if you are reading this, PLEASE stop playing these songs and stick to more current hits! Please!

Also, WILD added "Grenade" and "Tonight" FINALLY, but removed "Hey Baby" (why!?) and are still not playing Taio Cruz - "Higher" or "Rocketeer". I don't know why they are waiting so long... don't they want to compete for new music?

Ha! I figured that eventually this post / thread would capture your attention!

Q100 DAYPARTING IMO
I'm not exactly sure what WWVA is up to, but I think WWWQ has an "established specific identity format structure" they want to keep hold of. In other words, they have specific target audiences - that slightly differ durring mid day and evening time periods. I can't really complain too much because their dayparting does make them unique, sort of how BBC Radio 1 in London sounds "odd" when they play certain things in the day and then change things up at night (and BBC Radio 1 is one of the best channels on Sirius XM). I'm not, or used to not be, the biggest fan of top 40 dayparting (mostly due to the fact that I've been brainwashed into believing there is a standard norm and "not normal" way of formatting), but I'll admit the dayparting and their format structure does bring more variety and "unpredictability" to the station. I pray, wish, and hope for WWVA's success much much much more than I desire Q100 to be more like "everyone else", and I believe that WiLD CAN make it............ if given a chance.

V103 DAYPARTING / MUSIC IMO
I'll admit that I don't like V103's dayparting too much because it makes the noon time sound "soft" & mellowed out, and I'm also not overly fond of today's contemporary r&b (especially without the late 90's Timbaland, Missy, and Neptunes production sounds), but they've gotta do what they gotta do. I'd personally prefer V103 to slightly add a little more hip hop to the noon time, and even more, to play less old school and have less day time talk, and if it were completely up to me personally, I'd want to replace some of the old school r&b with rhythmic & urban influenced pop hits from artists like Jason Derulo, Iyaz, Black Eyed Peas, Fareast Movement, Pitbull, Bruno Mars, Taio Cruz, Usher, and things of that nature, but.. with them holding the number one spot for over a decade or two - both WITH and without (direct) competition, I wouldn't wish them to go overboard with any tweaks & changes.

I don't think Q100 is bad. It's just that a station like WiLD is "needed" in addition to Q100. Q100 is top 40 pop, WiLD is top 40 rhythmic. My only two wishes:
1. Q100 more risky on future (potential) hits.
2. WWVA STRONGER SIGNAL and GIVEN CHANCE TO SUCCEED!

It's not so much the dayparting, but some of the songs they are choosing to mix in. There are so many songs out there and a lot of these seem extremely random and/or old for a current top 40 station. I know I have said this ad nauseam but I'm not going to stop until they do (I know they read this message board).

any of them playing the New Travie McCoy-Need You?

No. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen any of the stations I check regularly use that song. Q100 does play "Somewhere I belong" by Linkin Park, though.

You are asking for V-103 to go rhythmic. Now you know this is the Deep South and one of the largest urban music markets in the nation. :D Now they will play some rhythmic, but Jason DeRulo or Taio Cruz in regular rotation? You might want to try V's sister stations in WPB, Hartford, or WPGC/DC for that to happen. As a matter of fact, WPGC did play Taio Cruz song "I Don't Wanna Know" when it was dropped as a single in 2006 for a couple of weeks.

Personally, I like the dayparting on V-103 because they spins some hip-hop and R&B songs I haven't heard since the 1990s. Now they will play some Timbaland produced tracks from the 00s like Aaliyah "More than a Woman" (which is one of my personal favorites), but they can keep the overboard rhythmic stuff regulated to nights and weekends. I enjoy the occasional rhythmic singles in the mix, but I see the current V as a "ying-yang" type of station that gives a little bit of everything. A little bit of contemporary R&B, rhythmic, old school, and hip-hop.
