Hit Parade Radio & Lujack to debut next week

Wonder if they would sign up a Part 15 AM to carry it (without cost or payment)?

Luj will phone it in - just like his WRLL gig. He is a has been with a name and a good agent. I don't blame him, as I believe Hitparade management is just stupid.

The Hit Parade Radio live stream URL is.... http://64.3.223.132:8000

It's mostly music with very little from the big name personalities they've been advertising. I heard Wink Martindale sound like he was reading from a Norm N. Nite book on several breaks, then Larry Lujack for one break, then Martindale again on the next two breaks. That’s novel. Or was it a voicetrack screwup?

The music is okay but the presentation is really dull. With all the extra time they took to get this up and going I expected more. But let’s give them a chance.

Another thing that's sad about this is that other people who are only half-paying attention.... and that takes in a lot of people... will think this is a failure because the concept of trying to appeal to older demos is a bad idea.... when it's the execution of the idea that's to blame.

I streamed the audio for a while last week on 1620 and may do so today during drive time to see what it sounds like today.
Right now we're listening to a vintage WLS John Records Landecker "Boogie Check". Big Reverb.

I've been listening for about 20 minutes and it's clearly closer to easy-listening than "oldies". "Send in the Clowns"? "Geeenfields"? and now I'm hearing a version of "One Toke Over the Line" that's clearly one of those re-recordings, not the orig hit version (which is readily available). WTF?

I've been listening to the Internet stream for the past hour-and-a-half. It sounds like a bad imitation of the now kaput ABC Timeless Classics satellite format. The music is all over the place, and only live personalities will be able to make this work, not phoned in voice tracks.

If the Internet stream is the same thing they have up on satellite, it must mean they have no affiliates yet. There haven't been any voice tracks, only a handful of liners. One was with Martindale, one with Lujacks. One said "tell everyone Hit Parade Radio" is coming. They should have had this up and running for real earlier this month when ABC pulled the plug on Timeless Classics.

as much as i admire John Rook and the programming work he has done in Top-40 Radio, my 1st impression of "Hit Parade Radio is..... we know its an Oldies Format but, Wink Martindale?... for this format i would go with guys like Charlie Tuna or Landecker, Fred Winston or MG Kelly...this sounds like just a Re-packaging of "Al Ham's" - "Music of Your Life" format.
i guess i would say all in all...dissapointing. :(

I listened to the same segement with Greenfields and One toke over the Line. I'm 48 and underwhelmed by the preponderance of mellow songs, which DO seem like selections from "Music of Your Life". If you're going to play Greenfields, it needs to be balanced out by something from far, far down the other end of the scale, like "Boyfriend" by the Ramones.
If you are an aging boomer, and wish to pretend that the world and music was all droning mellow pop during your youth, OK.
But I liked the louder faster stuff when I was 4, and I still do. So I hope this thing perks up, I won't be able to listen to this any more now than I would have in the 60s and 70s. Too mellow, too middle of the road, for me. At least so far.

Sure, Tuna and Landecker - as long as YOU don't have to sign their checks!

It IS CERTAILY a "repackaging of MOYL" for boomers, not boomers parents as MOYL targeted.

(i was speaking in terms of GOOD Top 40 vets, not neccesarily THEM as named)

if it goes anywhere, this thing will show up on a few 250 watt AM's in the middle of nowhere, then it will dissapear.

I'm fortunate to live within the coverage area of WFDL Waupun and enjoy what I've been hearing so far....here's a sample hour from this morning(10:06-11AM):

Hold Me Tight/Johnny Nash
Hit Parade Liner(Wink Martindale)
Bang A Gong(Get It On)/T. Rex
You Don't Own Me/Lesley Gore
Wink Martindale "generic" voice track
Local Break(about :18 past)
Sunshine Superman/Donovan
Telephone Line/ELO
Hit Parade Liner
5-10-15-(20-25 Years Of Love)/The Presidents
Wink Martindale "generic" voice track
Local Break (about :30 past)
Total Eclipse Of The Heart/Bonnie Tyler
Local Liner(WFDL didn't fill it)
(You're The) Devil In Disguise/ Elvis Presley
Hit Parade Liner
That'll Be The Day/Buddy Holly
More Today Than Yesterday/Spiral Starecase
Wink Martindale "generic" voice track
Local Break (about :45 past)
Clair/Gilbert O'Sullivan
Let's Hang On/Four Seasons
Hit Parade Liner
Baby I Love You/Ronettes
Wink Martindale "generic" Voice Track
Music Box Dancer/Frank Mills(Fade to Legal ID & CBS News)

I noted one "train wreck" segue - that was between T. Rex & Lesley Gore where there should have been a separator(IMHO).

Loved the "Oh Wow" song by The Presidents...just wish they hadn't shortened the intro but again, that's just my two cents worth.

Let's give it a chance...I'm betting the generics will go away once everyone feels comfortable with the formatics.

Your thoughts?
