Hit Radio 104.3 KHTR

I recently spent some time listening to 104.3 KHTR, while driving through Moscow and Pullman. I enjoyed the "Hit Radio" imaging, but the music mix wasn't very well programmed. Also, many of the songs were low quality MP3's, which made the station difficult to listen to.

Yes, I believe that both 93.7 KGSG and 104.3 KHTR are using stolen downloaded MP3 copies. If they had purchased them on iTunes, they would have been better quality. It's really too bad that these stations didn't spend a few more bucks to purchase full quality wav files from TM Studios. The small price would have been well worth it.

I don't understand how station owners can spend thousands of dollars on state of the art audio processors, and then play low quality MP3 files. It's like taking a bottle of pure spring water, and then mixing in a handful of dirt, before drinking it. It makes no sense.

Respectfully, xpert, you don't know what you are talking about.
The KHTR music comes from one of the major, well regarded, radio music suppliers.

E-dawg,

I also miss the old "Hot 104" on 104.3 KHTR, but Z-Fun 106 and My Radio 102.5 are already covering CHR and Hot AC in the market.

OldZink,

So we've now established that KHTR's music wasn't downloaded from LimeWire, but we still haven't established why KHTR's music has such poor sound quality.

102.5 is a MY station huh? Have not been back in a long time. It was the Crow before...crappy ABC satellite classic rock. If you wanted rock you listened to KKZX or Rock 106 thru the static and fuzz..

I haven't had the same experience. What is it exactly you are hearing "xpert"? It is the oldest music being played in the market on FM, could that be a factor?

Xpert:

KHTR music is from the major supplier.
Air chain is entirely non compressed AES from the sound cards, through the board, processor (conservative settings), STL, and Exciter....not sure what you are hearing

hey zink...last time I was in the studio, KHTR did not have a board...maybe he heard some strange things as they were swapping out the main transmitter and getting it dialed in?

jockey john:

I believe both of their transmitters are entirely AES
Their backup STL is not, but it has never been used.
Their board uses a touch screen instead of sliders. But... I think they've always had something there.

Zink...that is what I meant...touch screen..no real board there... ;) I remember driving to seattle to purchase the board prior to the touch screen...bought it from some band near Burien, Wa. Was a HUGE improvement from the previous dial pot POS that was there...that thing was a mess. Sure did clean up the sound when that thing went away.
