I can remember when there was a pause in just about any song Joey Reynolds would put in the Rebel Yell from one of the Stan Freeburg comedy records. He also did it if there was something like the wind is out of the South..... Funny stuff!
 
Records with pauses built-in (Badfinger, Gentrys, etc.) were very handy for backtiming to the network news. If you needed a couple of seconds to keep it tight, you could just hold onto the record to "extend" the pause a little....the boss never knew....no batphone calls about "dead air." ;) :D
