Hit the Road Jack (KAJK 99.3 Tyler/Longview)?

FCC shows the calls have been changed from "Jack"-ish KAJK to KZTK as of Friday...

yes.com still shows the adult hits format this afternoon...are they flipping (KZTK looks "talk"-ish)?

Gleiser has all of the good talk programs now. It could be "Talkish" or "Ticket-ish" although I doubt Cumulus would like having another "Ticket" within 150 miles of DFW.

Maybe the calls have no real significance and they will be picking up the former KDOK's oldies/classic hits format?

Cut & Pasted from Radio-Info's front page:

"The first format change, in Tyler-Longview, has Classic Hits KAJK “Jack 99.3,” (owned by Reynolds Radio) flipping to Talk using Imus in the Morning, as well as Laura Ingraham, Fred Thompson, Mark Levin, and George Noory."

Now I know why Gleiser dumped KDOK so quickly. Still KTBB-AM/FM has the upper hand with a local news, Rush, Hannity, Savage and Smoaky.

I doubt Reynolds will give his new talker a serious promotion. Just sticking another plug-and-play satellite format on 99.3 and thinking people are going to stumble onto it doesn't work in East Texas.

BTW I noticed that they turned off the stereo generator for 92.1 like 100.7 did. And what is going on with KEES 1430? There's a signal, but the modulation is almost inaudible.

Note to self, keep radio on Sirius/XM when going back to Northeast Texas to avoid the Right-Winged Nut jobs who have invaded the FM dial.

I thought Rusty might take advantage of grabbing the displaced KDOK listeners given KDOK's numbers were not that bad considering 92.1's poor signal outside of Tyler.

Wow, that reminds me...I'm out of Dijon mustard!

I think it is interesting that everyone seems to be flipping during the middle of a ratings book. Perhaps that is an indication that Arbitron really is useless (or at least over-valued)?

A former radio guy listening to Sirius XM? Blasphemy! ;)

I've actually had XM since the week it debuted and Sirius came with my last car. When I find a good station that has good local (non-voicetracked) personalities (like KDOK was), I still prefer the local stations. I didn't turn my back on local radio. Ownership groups turned their back on the listeners and the communities they support. And, they still continue to downsize. They don't realize that the more localism that you input into a station, the better your numbers and revenue will be. This is the only explanation I have for stations that used to pull 15 to 20 shares that are now pulling 6 and 7 shares. It's beyond time for the government to step in and fix this problem. It's time radio stations start serving the communities they are licensed for again.

I was kidding. I have XM too! (I like Prime Country (XM 17) and Nashville! (XM 11... carries the Grand Ole Opry).

Stations should serve their communities better. However, the economics of radio does not justify full time live airstaffs.

Funny how it used to. Of course, that's back when the owners were on the streets selling and pulled an air shift, too.

Well, you can work your tail off, and spend 30,000 a month to bill 50,000 a month, or you can work your tail off, and spend 10,000 a month to bill 40,000 a month. Which would you choose?
