Hi there...I thought I give PD's and other folks on this board a chance to download my show this week and give their input. Some of you are already famliar with my show, as it airs on a few stations nationally.

We continue to play the oldies "consultants wouldn't like". I even produced a new bumper that says exactly that. LOL. We like playing cool regional hits, instrumentals, teeners, early incarnations of famous groups (last week we featured "the Staccatos" who morphed into the Five Man Electrical Band. I played songs representing both eras), great soul, seldom heard "follow-up hits" and much much more. Lots of classic PAMS jingles too. Thanks for listening!!

I checked out you station last night..Wow...Wow.. Wow. This is what a modern day Oldies Station should sound Like, a whole new set of Oldies Mixed In with the better known, and very few cuts that have played to death over the last 40 years(I Listened to three segments and didn't hear Satisfaction, there is A God) . ... On a scale of 1 - 100 ...I give you a 1,000.
Great sound, very tight, now lets to the good stuff, George Wilson was giving me advise on Programming once and the first piece of advise was "It's Not What you Play, It's What You Don't Play"... second thing he said was "Everybody Is a Programmer, Your Wife, The Janitor, the Mailman, stay focused on you concept"You folks have achieved what the great Goerge Wilson was talking about.
What is super about your programming is the road map you have smoothly integrated with you liners such as your intro of the Lost/forgotten Oldies category, the doo-wop category, etc and you real good at giving the
Artist /Title in those categories where the audience might not remember that info. I was very Impressed on you Doo-Wop selections .......you are true to the purist definition of Doo-Wop. The lost/forgotten Oldies selections are exceptional you have a good ear in that area, very few folks have that ability....the selections speak for themselves and the audience will dig-It. You have even ressurected some answer songs that were so huge between 1957-1964.....I was was knocked-out to hear Josephine's answer to Napoleon XIV, great stuff, I heard the classic "Lonely Blue Boy" by Conway Twitty, that song defined his signature "Conway Growl". Heard Al Henderson, Cataliers, Victorions, all integrated smoothly with Doris Troy, American Breed, Fantastic Johnny "C" and the Shirelles. Your seventies liner is very clever "Turn On your Lava Lamp Here is a Classic Seventies".....something like that. There is untapped goldmine of Lost/Forgotten Oldies(who said there are no new Oldies) and you have hit the Motherlode........speaking of Motherlode, you probably have programmed "When I Die"...Finally someone who gets-It... This very creative/entertaining programming, instead of the Cookie-cutter formula that is prevalent today and killing oldies Radio...Keep up the great sound!!!!!!!!
 
Wow...thank you hornet61 for the very kind words. Your check is in the mail........lol. Seriously, it's not easy changing the current "culture" of oldies radio and the extremely tight playlists. I try to program oldies that I think people will enjoy hearing, regardless of the original chart position. Then I build around those songs, more well known oldies, so not to take the listeners too far out of their "comfort zone".

I will echo Hornet's comments. I listened to the whole download yesterday and for a moment thought I was back at my boyhood desk working on homework. Great stuff and a bunch I had never heard before (or maybe just don't remember).

GREAT SHOW! We are trying to do the same thing 24/7 on Oldies Radio - The Wheel in Market 192 (Dothan, Alabama). We have a small but dedicated staff of broadcasters from Baltimore, Seattle and the local area. Thinking out of the box, we play a lot of hits and near hits of the 50s, 60s and 70s with over 3000 titles in rotation and if we don't have a song a listener wants to hear, we try to get it. Our breaks are short and I'll bet we are the only station that uses the old ABC Entertainment Network jingle to go into the ABC News at :50. Unfortunately we cannot afford to have jocks all the time so we are automated except for 6-9am and 3-6pm Monday thru Friday and I do a request live show on Saturday night. We are focused on superserving the 50+ audience. When we do an on location broadcast, we do everything at the location including the songs, spots, news, weather, everything. No two or three short breaks on a cell phone. We give 'em a show! This is radio the way it used to be. Have you considered adding "Look Homeward Angel" by the Monarchs? The have been a regional hit band for many years.

I've played the Monarchs record once or twice, in the past. I agree, I think it is overdue for another playing. Probably on the next show. Thanks for the great suggestion.
