You are certainly entitled to your opinion, as am I. In major market radio, engineers have to familiarize themselves with the workings of all the other departments- as winning is a TEAM effort. I don't have to be a programming genius- I just have be smart enough to know when to consult with one- and I know some of the best in the biz. As for the snide remark about engineers, I too would like to have a quarter for every programmer who fancies him\herself an engineering- marketing-sales-promotions genius. Are you perchance the genius behind Hitz? If so, your "accomplishments" speak for themselves.

GO Gary....SO TRUE and to the point!!!!

Get the point he is making here!!! "MANWHORE" it dosen't takes genius to accomplish what you have done at HITZ94... It dosen't take a genus to fix the problem either.... If Hitzs changed format they would not impove a thing with the current group at the helm I hear... The owners need a house cleaning for sure!!! They need to get a real radio operator in the HOUSE!!! YEA!!!! That would impove things with no brains!!!!!!!!!

Plus Manwhore, you evidently don't know Gary... That's cool.

Your loss....

;D

Have never met Gary, and I don't know squat about engineering. Nor do I ever profess to. But in major market radio, and I've worked in multiple top 10 markets, engineers do engineering. It's not their asses on the line. How many engineers got blown out at Oldies 93? How many at FMX? How many at Magic 96? ALL the programming people got canned. It's easy to pontificate when you don't have to put your money where your mouth is.
My grandpappy always said," Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk".
Ps It doesnt' take a genus to fix anything in radio. I'm pretty sure you can get by with a species.

Based on your own advise Whoreman you'd better walk the walk and talk the talk. If you knew what you were doing you'd still be in the TOP 10 Markets.

The Z Man is walking the walk and talking the talk son...

heheheheh

See you soon......

;D

Ya know- I don't recall saying anything about canning any programming folks, or any other employee for that matter...I suggested replacing a deficient manager, upon whose shoulders this whole thing rests, and bringing in the pros to give it a tune up. It's disappointing Manwhore had to take it so personally- unless, of course, those might actually be his shoulders. What I AM saying is that the Hilton family are very gracious and committed owners, and they have poured tons of money and effort into the station over the last few years. The signal is more than viable in the Triad, and they deserve, and should reasonably expect, a far greater return on their investment than they have gotten so far. The only missing piece for them was and still is LEADERSHIP.

Manwhore - as a programmer, I want to give you some latitude. But, you're barking up the wrong tree. Hattaway knows his stuff. Engineering (especially processing) he is up there with the best. Overall radio knowledge, he smokes a lot of programmers I know.

He is right. This station has serious issues and Gary as correctly pointed them out. Leadeship and station self-esteem could produce far greater result on this signal. Gig seems to be an OK guy, but he needs to get some strong managers in there. My guess is, it is too late for what they are doing. He looked at doing oldies when he first put Hitz on. He needs to look for Oldies 93/96 veterans and take a run at it.

Well, form what all has been said it seems there are some good people in place but they lack the ability to help lead and help with decisons to put the station in the right way. So one guy is running the whole show?

Also why would anyone use the name "Manwhore"?

Are you kidding? ManWhore fits him perfectly and he knows it. He's sold his soul to keep his job! He's nothing more than a pawn for the person who's really programming Hitz94. And that person is the cancer in the building at that radio station. It doesn't have chance to succeed no matter what it does until the cancer has been removed.

Now you've lost me. Personally, I sold my soul 19 years ago to this hot babe in Manhattan. That's the last I've seen of it. Gary may be the best engineer on the planet, if he were a programmer he'd be programming. It pays slightly better.
I do like Bob and Leslie. Especially Leslie.

I think you really like Bob the most! ;D I'd get the u-haul packed if I were you. It's never too late to be sold down the river and I have a feeling your time is coming.

umm.engineers should stick to engineering. they really suck at programming. it's like putting the morning guy in charge of your tower upgrade.

Goatboy - This isn't really a discussion about engineers. It's about a single individual that is Controlling (note the capital C) everything at that radio station. Lots of very unhappy folks and a lot of lost potential. It's actually very sad. :'(

OK...so Manhwore is Bob of the am show and he doesn't know anyone there? Maybe that would be part of the problem? Or as a typical am jock it is "all about him". Uless Massman is wrong about Manwhores alias.

Well, I'll say one thing for Manwhore...it's 6:30 on a Saturday night and we're all here. Maybe he had something better to do! ha-ha!

If "manwhore" IS in fact Bob from the morning show at Hitz 94, Bob is also the acting Program Director. From what I hear, he doesn't do MUCH programming anyway! It is a shame...the station could be a GREAT Hot AC station.

The station does sound great. I don't think I've ever seen a billboard for it.

I have always questioned the use of billboards. A station I worked for had some really good billboards all over town but nobody ever said anything about seeing them. Do we see them because we are radio geeks or what?
