Sad sad news.
Sad sad news.
Agreed. I've heard from a few broadcasters, some who have as few as 10 listeners at peak, and they got a letter recently. Evidently the fine is $150,000 for each and every song streamed if you're not covered. Ouch.lovejamminoldies said:We didn't really give a detailed reason, but I'll say this. SoundExchange is coming after everyone. If you do Internet Radio, be prepared to pay if you plan to be big. Even if you don't, it's best to be ready. I have a few friends that have been getting letters from SoundExchange. They are prepared to shut down anybody who isn't licensed.

It's really up to the "enforcers" as to how far they want to go with any station. At $150,000 a play, times 16 plays an hour, the money's in the millions. The fine may be a civil penalty - I'm not sure. But I think copyright infringement is also a felony, meaning - I suppose - that they could press criminal charges if they wanted to bother with it. Depending on the priors and severity of the infringement, jail time might not be out of the question.LowPayDJ said:And how do they plan on collecting from someone that doesn't even have $150 broadcasting out of an apartment, let along $150,000?

I currently run a small Internet group I just started and am looking to expand. I don't want to make money, just to give back to listeners. I have implemented monetization ideas that have and will work and all I'd ever want is some $ to cover the cost, but not for me. I want the owners to keep.
Please email/message me as I have been trying to get in contact with the owner!

Didn't these guys go dark way back in June or July? It would seem to me you could just as easily at this point start from square one and build your own brand, and have an even better sample of how well your monetization ideas pan out...
Shoot I have half a dozen defunct domain names used for radio what kind of station do you want?
