HJY Contest

Yeah, don't be confused by the fact he currently has an album out and is currently touring the world. Maybe, just maybe, their audience knows that...

That's cool. I didn't know that. This is one of those National contests for cash. how do they sync this up so one market doesn't have an advantage over another?

Paul and Al announced the contest to call in at the same time as "Matty's Money". Same phone number. How do they sort out who wins what? "I'm sorry, which contest are you calling in for?" Ridic!

Really? That certainly doesn't sound like it makes sense. Might be time to launch a full investigation to see how this thing works. I'm really curious. Something doesn't sound right. My point is.... what if every radio station is told to run an audio clip at 7:20 AM as the cue to call in. Are the clocks at every radio station synced up to the second? What if one station is a little off and airs the clip at 7:19. All of a sudden the phone bank is filled with callers from that one city because they had a slight headstart. That would be an unfair advatage for that market. See what I mean? Now according to your post there is an entirely seperate issue as well.

I'm also thinking that radio stations aren't airing the cue to call in while songs are playing. Each radio station is probably going to wait for the song to end and then play Slash and his cue to call in. So there is no way every radio station participating in the contest is synched up with each other to begin this contest at the exact same moment. This is one of those contests with way to many question marks to it for it to be worthwhile. Sit and listen to a radio station for 12 hours and have 12 chances to win $1,000 bucks if the other 100 markets don't get a jump start on Providence and air the cue to call in before HJY does. There will probably already be a winner before certain markets air the stupid cue to call in clip. I would love for someone from the radio station to post here and clear up the many mysteries to these national contests. I'm not going to say you are scamming listeners since I am sure all the money promised will be given away. But it sure seems like this contest is allowed lots of room for error. To much room in my opinion. Kind of taking advantage of the fact that listeners aren't going to think about nor question any of this stuff like I just did.

It's beyond cheap. HJY & Kiss/Coast/ WERS should be giving away these prizes to their local audiences. Instead they spread the cost accross the country and give the listener no real chance of winning.

CBS runs it right in the middle of the song. Both Hip-hop formatted HOT 93.7 and Soft AC Lite 100.5 were running the contest in Hartford last time CBS did it. I don't know what LITE 100.5's gimmick was, but HOT 93.7's gimmick was that you're winning "Diddy's Money". For those of you not into hip-hop Diddy is a rap artist. Once known as Puff Daddy and later P. Diddy.

I know.. I know. Very cheap indeed. I understand they've got their reasons. Radio isn't what it once was. Not in quality nor in quantity of listeners. They've got less money to work with. I guess this is their solution. Most listeners aren't going to give this much thought though. Lucky for the radio station.

Wow, that's shocking to hear. Lost is the art of back timing, I guess.

Really doesn't matter what the time is at the station, only at the place taking the winner's call. If you lock all of the lines there and set the line open at the call in location to the atomic clock at greenwich and open them at 7:20:00....no problem. And you can do it 3 times each morning for Eastern, Central and Pacific.....

I was thinking something like this. For example as soon as it's 7:20 you clear all the lines and start fresh. That way all the people calling in early get dumped. But the problem is that we don't know if things like this are being done. I am going to start calling that contest line at random times during the day just to see what happens. If through some kind of miracle I actually win $1,000, I just might shut up about how unfair this contest may be. LOL ;D

I just picked up the phone at random and dialed. it's busy. I've been dialing repeatedly for 10 minutes. Still busy. I wonder if they just take the phone off the hook until a contest starts. Either that... or one of the 500 hundred radio stations using this line has a contest going on. Try it yourself and see what happens. 877-565-9467

EDIT: OK... I've been able to hit redial 16 times a minute for 10 minutes. That's 160 calls. This sucker just isn't ringing. Not even once.

I just called a few times at 5 in the morning. Line is busy busy busy. I think I want a list of contest winners. That's all I'm saying.

Oh this is nice. Go type the phone number into Google: 1-877-565-WINS

Anyone want to count how many radio stations are using this same number for all kinds of different contents? Holy Moly. I love games as much as anyone. I realize playing the lottery has extremely low odds of winning too. But at least people who play the lottery have a good idea of how low the odds are. Geeez. The line still should not be busy at 5 in the morning. How many stations do you think are running contests that early?
